This must be galling to read by those on the housing list.

Surely those in sheltered accommodation should get first choice & the refugees move into the sheltered accommodation.

there loads of british people awaiting housing why give it to illegal migrants and bogus refuguees, british people first.

All I'm trying to say, Do you think the Afghanis are being prioritised over other people in hotels?????
they haven't - that's what the whole article says. It's even in the sub-header "but many Afghans spoken to by Sky News say they haven't yet received any offers of housing"
no, and i dont know why you do - it doesnt say that ANYWHERE in the article, just that these people are being treated the same as everyone else?
good they shouidnt jump the queue as i said before british people first
Question Author
From the article...
There are already one million British people on the social housing waiting list in the UK.
I just hope the allocation of housing is done in a fair way.
ps im not sure "the queue" works in a first come first served basis as you seem to be implying. My understanding is that people are allocated points (on a need basis).
If a single person needs a ground floor flat because of a medical condition, and a 5 bedroom house comes up as free, the single person doesnt get offered t simply because they've been waiting for longer (or are british)!
yes, me too sharon, but i have no reason to suspect it isnt

Time will tell.
Did someone say there was no war in Syria?
Oh well …

Much as I am anxious to see and am delighted at the reception for Ukrainian refugees there’s that uncomfortable feeling that we are not treating everyone the same .
//Surely those in sheltered accommodation should get first choice//
I don't think you understand what sheltered accomodation is. It is accommodation for elderly or disabled people consisting of private independent units with some shared facilities and a warden.
Why would anyone who needs and resides in sheltered accomodation want to move?
// there no war in afganistan or syria //

You might want to research that a bit more, LOL.

Thechair, I admit I was confused about sheltered housing. I meant those that live in emergency & temporary accommodation whilst waiting for suitable housing.
where do you think the people in your link have been living for the last year?
Question Author
Bednobs, I don't but I'm sure you will tell me.
secondpara in your link
"A year after the fall of Kabul, 9,500 Afghan evacuees remain IN HOTELS in the UK waiting to be housed with Britain already struggling with a shortage of social housing."

the third para in your link
"The Home Office newsletter to Afghan evacuees IN HOTELS, seen by Sky News, says: "The Home Office will make a maximum of two offers of suitable accommodation. If you decline both offers without good reasons, we will not make any further offers."

did you even read your own link, or just the headline before you got outraged? hotels ARE emergency and temporary accommodation!
it's not like they are living hte high life in a swanky 5 star mayfair hotel, any more than any other people given temporary
emergency accommodation, which are ususally B+B/hotel based are
Agree with bednobs, this isn't even a story it basically says 'People in emergency accommodation are being treated like people in emergency accommodation'....
Question Author
Of course I read my link. So this applies to all people in hotels regardless of whether their nationality? And the offers of housing are not forthcoming, hence the thousands of Brits still waiting.
it applies to all people on the waiting list to be housed. if you are in temporary accommodation and you refuse a reasonable offer (in some areas it's two, some one) the council has done its duty and will remove you
