I see the civil partnerships thread has reached 60. To all you seasoned ABers - what has been the longest thread you can remember?

Blimey!
there was a Harry Potter one that passed 1000. Try searching under Arts & Lit, though it may have been taken away to be exhibited in the British Library by now. Meanwhile the Biddybank thread in suggestions is racing towards 500, which may also be the combined age of the people posting on it.
I think that the longest thread on here got to over 1000, remember a posting saying this but can't remember what the thread was or who was te poster
Ask emsey if she's around. She'll tell you all about the longest thread. And it was well over 1000 posts.
I would guess, that whenever iraq is discussed would be up there as the longest thread..
click on this for your answer. (I have no idea if it's the longest, but it's pretty long)

There was a thread which reached 5000 answers on 6th September 2004. I remember it because I provided most of the answers.

...and it was about what exactly?
In the summer of 2004 there was a competition on a radio station in Ireland which asked people to fill in the blanks in the phrase "tuck your blanks into your blanks" (the eventual answer was "tuck your hooters into your underpants"). The radio offered a prize of E.1000 which went up by E.1000 for every day the question went unanswered. The competition went on for several weeks, and dozens of people came onto this website asking what the blanks were. It very quickly became very annoying for regular users of Answerbank, because such people tended to ignore the fact that the same question had already been asked loads of times, and they all thought that they were being original in asking the question on this website. It got to the stage where the same question was being asked several times a day in various categories by different people. It gradually became a tradition that regular users of this site would bombard such annoying questions with a torrent of useless, useful, or irrelevant information, jokes, comments, anecdotes, trivia, etc.
We also discovered that it was possible to inflate the number of answers by clicking rapidly and repeatedly on the "submit" button before it disappeared, thereby causing the same answer to be posted several times in just a few seconds.
