//….the Brexiteers on this site and countrywide will never, ever, ever concede that 90% of Britains current problems are all caused by the the self-destructive Brexit vote back in 2016.// They might if it were true, but simply put it isn’t. So instead of endlessly spouting mindless rhetoric, let’s have a proper look at just one aspect: //The UK is 100,000...

Ok, so 45 minutes since posting and 0 Answers showing..

I am prepared to waste a minute of my precious time to reply here..
the answer is B-exit has made the problem WORSE here in the UK.

Nuff said, I'm off.. work to do!
You a lorry driver roo ?
The DVLA has caused the problem in the UK!!
Just saying "Brexit has made it worse" doesn't make it true.
"....so how was it caused in the EUSSR?"

Similar to the UK, an age-related demographic time bomb (natural deaths and retirements) and the perceived low social status and subsequent low pay - hence the decline in replacement numbers.

Many such demographic time bombs exist i.e. debt, fossil fuel costs, pensions.... and of course the demographic decimation of the over 75's by covid-19 was an example.
Europe short of drivers? Don’t tell gully. He’ll be everso upset.
France and Germany are 40,000 drivers short.
The UK is 100,000 short. The 60,000 discrepancy with our EU rivals is due to Brexit.
Germany and France can alleviate some of their shortage by hiring Romanian drivers without need for VIsas and bureaucracy.
Now in the UK it is much harder to plug the gaps with east European drivers. We have made a bad situation much worse for ourselves.
Gromit //discrepancy with our EU rivals is due to Brexit.//
Rather it is due to a combination of Covid and the fact that the Poles, in particular, could earn more money at home.
Since so many drivers have allegedly returned to Europe, what’s France and Germany’s excuse?
One thing is for sure,Gromit-the Brexiteers on this site and countrywide will never, ever, ever concede that 90% of Britains current problems are all caused by the the self-destructive Brexit vote back in 2016.
The reasons for the shortages across Europe are mch the same as mentioned above.

Naomi, Gromit has answered that question and so has sevenOP, very eloquently. The whole of Europe has suffered from a lack of HGV drivers // natural deaths and retirements and the perceived low social status and subsequent low pay -//
The differences for France and Germany are that they are in a better position to fill these vacancies because ( as gromit says) //Germany and France can alleviate some of their shortage by hiring Romanian drivers without need for Visas and bureaucracy. //

The shortages of HGV drivers has taken years to get to the crisis we now have -Brexit has meant we can't easily address these issues by filling the vacancies with Romanian & Polish drivers. So it is partially to blame.
"Our anti-British buddies",i think it was you eejits that could be called anti-British,tora.Looks like Brexit has caused nothing but problems for my beloved Britain.
But they’ve got all those who were working here back! That’s why we’re short we’re told so how come they’re still short?
Europe has a shortfall of drivers. The UK has a critical shortage of drivers. What we don't have in Europe are empty supermarket shelves and panic buying if petrol. You peeps can deny it all you want, but with brexit you brought your country to its knees. If it's not to do with the end of free movement, how come the Boris is begging European drivers to take up special visas to come and work there?
Europe has problems with supplies to supermarkets too. You peeps (as you say, TheChair) can blame Brexit all you want but that isn’t Brexit’s fault … is it now?!
As the links show, until such time as working conditions and wages improve and make the job more attractive to those seeking work then the shortages will continue - whatever country you are in.
dannyk13 ; "and the fact that the Poles, in particular, could earn more money at home."

Jakub Borzykowski, a Polish HGV driver who works in Germany, says that despite the possibility of earning an extra £6,000, the visa on offer is too short-term for him to consider moving to the UK... Jakub Borzykowski, who was born in Poland but lives in Germany, said lorry driver wages in the UK are much higher than what he earns now. However, moving for only three months is just "not an option" for him."

How many HGV driver shortages did we have when we were in the EU?
Please answer giving the years they occured
