Why aren’t countries like Saudi,Kuwait and a lot more Arab states just sitting back and watching it all unfold again, that’s unless they want to see Sharia Law and brutal beatings carried out in football stadia ?

//nope - - I dont want Tommies to die in Afghan.// And neither do I. For once Peter and I are in complete agreement. The only way to preserve (relative) peace in Afghanistan is for a permanent and sizeable force of troops to be stationed there forevermore. It is totally unreasonable to expect this. The US and the UK (plus one or two sundry others) have spent twenty...

Troops are being sent back to help with evacuation, as it says.

Why would Arab states want to get involved though? If that’s what you actually mean
Bobbi, if we let the Taliban take over Afghanistan it will become a Isis state in which terrorists will train at will.
Question Author
Ich you ask why should Arab states get involved? Why should they not? The uprising of the Taliban again needs to be quelled and shouldn’t be up to America anc Britain alone to do this.
I know 600 troops have been sent in to help with the Evacuation , my heart goes out to the peace loving Afghanis who’ve known nothing but war that’s gone on for decades now
I wonder what relatives of dead service men and women must be thinking as we spent years largely successfully bringing relative peace progress to the country only to see it literally all signed away in a few pen strokes
Why would Arab states in particular want to quell the Taliban?
I am genuinely puzzled
Question Author
Ich it seems that way that they’ve died for nothing, there’ll never be peace there I’m afraid
Question Author
Not just Arab states, if we have to get involved again which I hope we do not then that’s when neighbouring Arab states should send their troops in with people like ourselves and the Americans or wouldn’t it be feasible to see Arab fighting against Arab?
Afghans aren’t Arabs of course(!)

Sending Arabs into the country would be …
Well it isn’t going to happen, so
or wouldn’t it be feasible to see Arab fighting against Arab?

that didn't seem to bother Iraq and Iran in the eighties.

Let them get on with it. Innocent Afghanistan's would, and have, died, regardless of if the UK and Americans were there or not.
Question Author
So basically there’s an uprising in that region and it’s left up to the West to deal with?
Iranians aren’t Arabs either
If you look at countries that border Afghanistan then Pakistan is the obviously candidate to intervene. And they may have to anyway. Along with Tadzhikistan which is ethnically linked to some of the population
I don’t know about you but I don’t really have huge confidence in that scenario
What’s happening there is utterly horrendous - but not unexpected.
My guess is that lots of Taliban support comes from elements within Pakistan (they did harbour Bin Laden for years) & it's just too difficult for anyone to suppress.
Question Author
If they weren’t such cowards that hide behind human shields I’d like to see them wiped out by a massive bomb but of course it’s the innocent people who always suffer in such conflicts
The likely outcome of the Taliban takeover is a civil war
I am not sure a “massive bomb” would work.

They tend not to discriminate, human shield or not.
It’s not as if they’re all congregated in a shed with the word TALIBAN” on the roof
its sad, but the west tried and failed, it's backward tribal land at war
always was always will be, if other muslim countries cared, they would have made an effort, tribal 7th century mindset, my heart goes out to the women and young girls... even if we could magically eliminate islam, thye would still be fighting.
// that didn't seem to bother Iraq and Iran in the eighties.//

Iran arent arabs - see Ich....

we went into Afghan to combat Al-qaeda, and didnt win, and now we have come out.
will al-qaeda return? we will - - - wait and see

and evacuating troops and not ensuring that the civilians and embassy staff were OK, I thought a bit cack-eyed
BUT.... that is modern govt for you
