I care far more about whether the children are right than about whether or not they are children.
Yes emmie... the majority of parents try to teach their children not to judge on appearance or clothes- but integrity and behaviour. Why should a school have the right to overrule that?
I wondered that too anneasquith

Pixie: This thread is about racism not uniforms.
It's about both surely seeing as the strike is about uniform policy
That too, zebo. It works both ways. Sending children home to miss education, because they have mascara on- is not acceptable or appropriate, in my view.
It's about both, paign- but I appreciate your concession:-)
look at it this way, by wearing a uniform you are representing your school, that you don't have to wear weekend style clothing, where some may have stacked wardrobes full of fashionale clothes, and others not, so i only see wearing a uniorm as a good thing.
Untitled, I saw that. Maybe get a reply soon .
still if it not only about uniforms and the head has no support from his staff, then perhaps its time for some serious talking.
The term 'Academy' to describe a run-of-the-mill secondary school is meaningless. it is intended to convey a false impression.
Emmie, I disagree. Even while wearing the same uniform, students are well aware who has 17 jaguars and who went skiing for 3 weeks.
As I say, most parents are more interested in behaviour, morals and courtesy. For schools to teach that appearance is more important, is incredibly old-fashioned and unnecessary.
perhaps TTT should have clarified Anne
i believe appearance matters, in school particularly, as i said wearing a uniform is representing the school. We arent going to agree on this.
TTT got distracted by his "It's Official We Aint Racist......" thread, I'm sure he'll come back and explain.
perhaps he will....
We aren't. In a state school, particularly, people only represent themselves. Wearing a uniform while letting down tyres... is hardly going to make a difference.
If clothes matter, it's certainly not something you want to drum into children.
If kids are told to wear a school uniform, then they should and the parents should back this, but sadly that's not the way of the world any more - kids have 'rights' nowadays and boy do they know it, and that's the crux of the matter.
They are not asking to not wear a uniform they are protesting against changes to the uniform rules and with some justification.
The function of schools is to educate its pupils and prepare them for live beyond education. If they are going to earn a living and make a contribution to the society in which they live they will be surprised to find that it often means complying with terms and conditions with which they may not necessarily agree but which they have to swallow in order to earn a crust.

The idea of a school uniform is to ensure that "designer wars" are not visited upon children. This ensures that the "disadvantaged" ones are not bullied for failing to wear £350 trainers. Schoolchildren and their parents need to accept this and schools should not succumb to campaigns which will see the abolition of practices which have served well for some considerable time.
