They are, it seems the most at risk yet they also seem to be most against accepting help. Surely they don't believe all the tin hat cobras do they? What gives?

That Dave50, is exactly what they will demand happens. The rest of the Country stays locked down, furloughed, or wfh to ensure that the great unvaccinated or immune are not "putting them in danger". They will also accuse the non BAME community of avoiding or deliberately giving them a swerve on sight, and it will soon be a hate crime with loverly compensayshun...

Religious beliefs in many I believe and family superstitions perhaps - so mistrust?
Good discussion on LBC last week. Lots of calls mainly from Afro/ Carribbeans explaining why. Combination of reasons given.
One reason is they know BAME are more likely to die of COVID and assume that the vaccinne is like injecting Covid.
Mostly tho the callers were all saying they didnt trust the goverment. One blamed Thatcher- she said she wont ever trust a Tory since Thatcher lied on the miners. Some thought it odd that the goverment suddenly pretends to care about BAME when it clearly doesnt and blamed stop n search and institutional racism.
Others thought the only reason the goverment wanted to vacc BAME was because it would save WHITE lives as so many carers and doctors.nurses are black but many old people are white so they werent going to fall for it.
Others said the briefings were just propoganda by white scientists and politicians. They said asians like Patel, Rishi, Van Tam didnt count as black they werent A/C and didnt understand afro carribbeans.
The more we try to encourage vaccinnes the more suspicious they are.
It was quite depressing listening to the distrust of whites
Whether BAME or not Tora, anyone who doesn't take the vaccine has no one to blame other than themselves when they get infected.
Some sections of the BAME community have always been suspicious of vaccination and for various reasons. They fear it affects fertility, they fear it contains microchips that will be used to spy on them, they fear their cultural superstitions.
Even the LBC co-presenter (Denise Headley) was more intrested in blaming stop and search and underlying issues of discrimination against BAMEs, particularly afro carrribbeans, than on pointing out that the vaccinne would save black lives.

//They fear it affects fertility,//
Yes thats been mentioned too but it doesnt explain why half of over 80s in the BAmE groups are not wanting it
Chicken1234

It naturally occurred in Bats.
bobbinwales //it doesnt explain why half of over 80s in the BAmE groups are not wanting it //

Perhaps theirs are the other reasons I mentioned. Simple distrust for whatever reason.

Strange that some seem to think that it is only the Bame community have all these concerns about the vaccine. Bobbinwhales 12.05, May be the over eighties are looking at the remainder of their life span, compared to any risk of having the vaccine, just like me in fact.
Your right naomi. I should of added a smiley face .
There is deep rooted distrust and theres a risk the more we try to encourage something there reluctant to do the more suspicious they'll be and the more determined not to play ball with a goverment and establishment they distrust so much.
My idea is that some of the covid briefings should be done by scientists and medics- maybe BAME, - even some community leaders, with no ministers there
It’s not all one “community” ...
Teacake teh figures show massive uptake of around 90% in white over 80s but under 50% in BAME over 80s.
There was a survey on Bradford in the news today
bobbinwales, last week there was a news report of an Imam being vaccinated and encouraging Muslims to do the same. I doubt it will do much good - superstitious are deep rooted - but we can hope.
there should be more awareness of this amongst the black and asian community, as you say they are more at risk, time for the leading lights in these communities to start leading the charge, ie getting out there and telling people its safe as can be.,and that better to maybe have a few days of discomfort than a possible lingering death from this virus.
So what does that prove Bobbin whales? it just tells me that the Bame community are giving, or have given it more thought.
12.23 And?
