on Newsnight tonight. I joined. Maybe fellow ABers might be interested as I'm sure we must all agree with free speech.

I wonder what the FSU would do if one of their members were critical of the FSU?

thecorby: It's a bit like starting the apathetic society and calling it a victory when no-one turns up. I just thought it might be fun to get involved with a new entity. Free speech seems a good cause.
I joined last year. They do a great job defending people against the witch hunts that break out when anyone speaks their mind in contravention of wokedom.
I have been a signed up member since day 1
Free speech can carry a hefty price, see gold membership in Naomi's link. :-P
At what price free speech though Douglas?

Are you insinuating they wouldn't accept it? Do you have any proof of this hypocrisy?
Nothin' ain't worth nothin', but it's free. :-)
Lawrence Fox has launched a new political party called Reclaim, to stand up for free speech and against Wokeism.
Already he has been attacked by parts of the press calling him divisive and controversial.
Its about time people of goodwill and lovers of freedom stood up against the Twitterati and Wokeists who see racism etc around every corner.
Why would you join any union unless you felt a 'need' to do so? I don't 'tweet', don't do FB, and any remarks i make (outside of AB) are made to friends and family.
It’s a good idea in theory as long as it’s not a excuse for right wing cranks to promote nonsense conspiracy theories and then complain about lack of free speech when their offensive nonsense is criticised.
I’m not sure that paying oodles of cash to be a gold standard free-speecher is the best way to promote tolerance and common sense.
As a lobby group it can influence the government who are influenced already by Leftism and Globalism.
The Government are influenced by anyone who donates wads of cash.
...which is what they’ll have if they charge those rates :-)

If you think so why not sign up? it's free - unless you want to donate, & you will get informed of what good they achieve as they achieve it.

I think that reads better without the "right wing" in there. I'm not sure Piers Corbyn is right wing, for example, and he has promoted several conspiracy theories, e.g. around Holocaust denial, climate change denial and Covid denial. He seems to like to denying things.

I explained why.
I am for free speech
At the moment I don’t see the need to pay someone for the privilege of reassuring myself of that fact.
I also believe in a few and open press which we have.at the moment I’d be more inclined to donate my money to organisations where free speech is under more serious threat and even then if need to be convinced it was going to do any good.
I’m not sure Piers Corbyn cares much about the cause of free speech unless it’s his own freedom of speech. Then again that might be true of many ...
Yup!
