The Blatantly Biased Corporation. Is no longer fit for purpose. Unless of course you want a irresponsible propaganda outfit bursting with diversity.

Gromit,I see you have got in your usual dig at the government.
/Which is a pity for the BBC which could be a world beater without the shackles of politicians holding it back.//
Your proof of which is ?

It is not a dig at this Conservative Government per se.
It was a dig at ALL politicians both Labour and Conservative.
They don’t know anything about broadcasting, but because they hold the purse strings, they interfere, usually for personal and party benefit - and not in the public interest.
Gromit//but because they hold the purse strings,//
No they don't, see link at 13.50.

Your link At 13:40 states:
// FURIOUS ministers threatened the BBC's funding last night after it defied them //
Gromit, from that link
//will be considered as part of looking at the way forward" on whether the licence fee survives beyond 2027.//
Gromit, the government's hands are tied until 2027

You seem very confused dannyk21.

The Government (and future Governments) like the power the BBC gives them, so they won’t scrap it or the licence fee.

In my opinion, the BBC should be split in two.

BBC Home: should fulfil the State broadcaster role. It should have public service duties delivering all the unprofitable programmes that the the beeb is compelled to make (by the Government) but not many people watch and cannot be resold for a profit abroad. Responsibilities would include News, religious programmes, politics, local regional programmes and foreign language broadcasts.
This arm should be funded by direct taxation and free to air.

BBC Commercial: should be there to make money by making quality programming that people (or advertisers) will pay for. And resale to other broadcasters. Films, tv series and sports broadcasts would be its main product. It would be completely independent from the state, and Governing.
This arm would be self financing from advertising, streaming subscriptions and sale of content to other broadcasters. No licence fee money and no direct taxation money.

I am sure that made sense in your head, but is fairly incomprehensible to anyone who hasn’t imbibed in whatever recreational stimulant you have been on :-)

pink floyd animals album..perfectly says it all.
If you stop the licence fee and the BBC went to advertising it would not have good consequences for British Television.

The BBC would suffer greatly but would survive.
But SKY, ITV, channel 4 & 5, along with a multitude of freebies channels would all go bust.

Be careful what you wish for.
Fender62,
Go for a lie down mate. Bless.

Are you sure about that Gromit? Not that we can afford Sky etc.. At 87, OH is more or less set on refusing to pay - on the grounds that there is less and less for us to watch. We reckon paying them about 1/3rd would be generous. Yesterday we watched BBC4 from 7.00 p.m. and this is a fairly general pattern; yet this is the channel they want to scrap and attract the 16+ audience. About the only things we watch on Beeb 1 & 2 are News (which is so skewed and twisted) and quizzes like Uni. Challenge and Only Connect.

If the BBC went back to catering for all (and not pushing a metropolitan mindset all the time) then we may be happier to pay for it. As it is, OH says 'OK, jail me' (and he's stubborn enough to stick to it).

every cloud . . .

I haven’t bought a TV licence for 7 years. I do not watch any live TV, and have Amazon Prime and Netflix. Everything I watch is streamed at my convenience. I go to the pub to watch live football.
I would not miss the BBC but I do not constantly whinge and whine about it either.
The licence fee is outdated and better methods for paying for TV are out there.
But the politicians don’t want to end their access to their propaganda machine, and the rest of the UK broadcaster support the status quo because they know the BBC would thrash them hands down if it was a straight battle on quality and audiences.
You will never hear Murdoch or ITV calling for the BBC to be scrapped because they know it would be the ruin of their businesses.
The BBC is anti British, anti-government, yet it’s a prop for government which can’t do without it, its news is skewed and twisted etc etc

There’s a debate to held about the funding of the BBC for sure. Although you wouldn’t think it to read all this lot, it’s still widely popular and its news is still trusted better than other stations (RT? CGTN? Fox? Al Jazeera in its wilder Pilger moments anyone?)
So hopefully the debate when it comes will be more rational than this one.
