Obviously that is never going to happen.
There are no apps currently available.
Landlords do not know how to implement them.

Are the Governments advisors not living in the real world? Do the not realise there isn’t a chance of that working.

After the Corona App fiasco have they not learned anything.

Gromit's post seems to working from a false premise anyway. There is absolutely NOTHING in the government's guidance to the hospitality industry which say that pub must use apps. The guidance simply lays down basic principles and it's up to individual licensees (or the company's that own the pubs they work in) to determine the best ways to ensure that the...

I lived in Sheffield for twenty years, Alba. They always say exactly what they mean in that fine city ;-)
"TCL
// you are comparing two apps designed to undertake completely different tasks. //

No I am not.

I mention the corona App to TTT because we have talked about it before."

They are completely different so the failure of one is no guide to the prospects of one with simpler tasks.

"Combined with the fact that it is not going to make anyone any money, no one is going to waste their time and effort developing it. "

Really? Why have these apps been developed and in use?

"But you both seem to think this software appears very quickly by magic and is easy and infallible.
It isn’t. "

Where have made any of those claims?
gromit, 23:06, your ignorance is breathtaking. The covid app is not comparable to an off the shelf app that's been around for over a decade. Do you think all these apps are written from scratch? They are mostly a standard template that needs tweaking for the actual outlet, retail/table service is very simple in app terms. They knocked up an app as one of the tasks on the apprentice for gawd sake.
"TCL
Easy-peasy.
You and TTT do it and make a fortune. " - don't be a wally, we are not talking about a new idea for an app, we are talking about taking a known template off the shelf and plugging in the price list, item list and some branding.

As it to emphasis Tora’s point they were interviewing a small Cotswold pub in the middle of pretty much nowhere yesterday. They had their own app ready to go: how much off the shelf I don’t know.
Gromit has form for posting false news.
ich, I'm working with the club sec on our app right now! now I know a lot of small boozers wont bother but it's something to consider.
you know in motorbike shops, the new bikes arrived more or less assembled in crates. The shop puts on a few bits and polishes them up ready for the show room. That is what most apps are now days.
There will be folk working on apps at this very moment and if they charge a monthly fee for their use, they could generate a healthy income.

Monthly fee for an app for buying pints in a pub?

You are joking of course?
ED 09:31, does that include all the names I get called?
You mean like TTG?
ROY, no, I'm not joking, why do you think I am?
nowt's for nowt roy, you'd pay one way or another, hopefully business done would more than pay for the app.
I don't know the percentage but apps such as this are usually a one off payment.

It can be a one off payment but then you pay through the nose for any changes. Usually better to have a monthly service contract then it's permanently upgraded and supported. Any pub would do it's own analyses of what the app brings in and bin it of it's not paying for itself.
