Haha ^^^^
Probably a good idea but maybe a spectacularly bad time to bring it up in the current climate.
Ms Nancy seems to be coming up on the rails in the leadership contest, with Long Bailey looking increasingly like a dead duck.
Nandy :-)
YAAAWWWNNNN.

Weren't we recently criticising the whole honours system? Changing the name of a medal doesn't change anything on either side. No, it doesn't make of any more or less acceptable, Lefties. No, thinking the change is a good idea doesn't make someone anti-British, Righties.

Now stop squabbling about irrelevant things and sort out some trade agreements like good leaders.
How is it anti-British to wonder if maybe the honours system and the titles should be updated somewhat?

I can't say I care either way, but I'm maybe a little surprised at the level of pushback the suggestion gets. Not *that* surprised, but it's almost like people complaining about this are looking about something to be angry about.
//with Long Bailey looking increasingly like a dead duck. //

canard-mort she may be, but she's the canard-mort with the backing of Momentum, without which no contender stands any chance. looks like, therefore, we can expect continuity in the lame performances of the leader of the opposition at PMQs.....
jim- Late you come but still you come.
I hate to disappoint :)

But did you have anything interesting to say?
^& that applies to mozz as well.
I'll worry about it when I'm offered one. I may be waiting a while though!
Problem Spicey?
//Now stop squabbling about irrelevant things //

You lot started this nonsense. Now it's used against you, you bleat.
I never started anything, thank you. I think my post clearly states that the idea of changing it is ridiculous, as it getting wound up about it.

I can honestly say that I have never spent a single second of my life, before reading this thread, thinking about the word "Empire" in the British honours systems.
I didn't start anything either. You're going after the wrong target, spicey.
//As mentioned, Queen Victoria is dead and so is George VI (who created the George Medal). Utter nonsense and if that is what the Labour leadership candidates have to put before the people who will choose their new leader they deserve all they get. //

Not quite the same NJ. One of the awards is Member of the British Empire. It doesn't make a lot of sense to be awarded the membership of something that doesn't exist.
Long Bailey is a dead duck in the leader contest. I don’t expect Nandy to beat Starmer, although if she edged past RLB in the first round you never know ...

Current membership of the Labour Party roughly 560,000 I think (more then at the height of Corbyn mania)
Current membership of Momentum probably well under a tenth of that.
