So calling Meghan 'uppity ' constitutes a racist remark?
The Racist word is being too overused by people who who use it randomly
Yes, we have racists here in the UK but calling someone uppity is NOT a racist comment !

Never in all my life have I heard that this word is racist. I've even used it myself at times - quick call the hate police !!! What a load of old tripe, but so typical in this day and age.

Got to agree, but I do wish the media would leave her alone.
Social media is being overused as we all *** each other off with foul mouthed abuse. Holmes has also overreacted.
How much time is going to be wasted on this nonsense
The r-word is used to close down any discussion, if you disagree you are proving the point! It's a catch-22 situation.
Singing 'Uppity doo-dah, uppity ay' was a bit much.

I agree with both of you, the press and the media should back off with this 'hate' campaign against her, it's nothing short of a witch hunt, as for Mr Holmes ,he should have lol at the caller at her ludicrous accusation
Non story.

Not racist, of course.
yes, it's too readily applied, real racism often goes un noticed by uncle tom cobbly and all playing the race card all the time.
I think it's fairly well connected with some racism though, especially when used in a phrase which includes "the N word !?". It's one of those grey area things where one walks on eggshells if using.
Uppy or uppity ?
Question Author
Uppity / whatever that meant/
Obviously not racist, but aside from that, the thing that made me laugh about this is the accusation that she's 'uppity'.

I mean, she's a member of the royalty f.fs. If royalty aren't allowed to be uppity, then who is?

fair enough ludders but the true royals have a technique to being uppity that new commers need to learn. They should study Princess (naff orf) Anne for example.
Question Author
Exactly Ludwig ,
So what's she supposed to have done that was the wrong kind of uppity, and how should she have done it?

yes it is, as OG points out. "Uppity N" was a common phrase in the southern US (and one that could get the victim lynched).

I don't know about "uppy" as quoted in the link, that's usually spoken only along with "keepy".
// yes it is, as OG points out. "Uppity N" was a common phrase in the southern US (and one that could get the victim lynched). //

True, but in this case clearly not said with any racial connotation intended. Anyone can be uppity after all, irrespective of skin colour.

Anyway, back to the key issue.....'Oooooh that Meghan Markle, she expects everyone to call her ma'am and bow and curtsey to her and be chauffeur driven everywhere, and live in a palace. She's clearly got ideas above her station , who does she think she is?'.
Funny word to use but not racist.
Actually I think it is racist in this context...as has been pointed out the word is a well known associate of the N word and unusual to say the least to see it used in any other context.
Question Author
I had never heard it being associated with the N word woof, I always took it to be 'she/ he was up his own backside '
I agree with Eamonn, she is "up her own backside" what's racist about that? We all have one.
