I schlep my backside up to London Bridge everyday to do the best I can for my wife and kids - all I'm interested in is doing the best I can so I can give them the best life it's possible for me to give them.

Am I meant to feel some sort of middle class guilt for those less fortunate? Because if I am, I most certainly don't. The (in my opinion) too much tax I pay provides those who can't work (which I am more than happy to help) with an income, and those who choose not to work (which I resent) with free money, so I do my bit.

Well so has police officers bobbi. London police officers have to live in London. They no longer receive rent allowance and married quarters are non existent now. No free prescriptions or dental fees. No boot allowance or stocking allowance.Many vocations and careers have stepped backwards in pay but you cut your suit according to your cloth.
Those who put aside for emergencies and save will survive on their own. Those who don't still seem to chug along with their comforts and indulgences.
