I'm not convinced that Boris really wants it.
He's just echoing what we already know - that immigration is the main cause of probelms in this country, e.g. housing shortage, over-crowded schools, NHS waiting lists.
i dont understand the pro migrant groups, public resources at breaking point, let alone housing, overcrowding, crime...they must be migrants themselves and do not care about social cohesion, or there paid.
Johnson couldn’t give a stuff about anything. He’ll be fine whatever happens. He’ll promise anything to get the top job.
The trouble is his opponent isn’t up to much either.
No country is zero net, OG. What does that mean anyway? Do you include ex-pats, students and all seasonal workers? Can't see it happening.
Do we deserve the politicians we have? Has our selfish indifference put us in the position that nearly all politicians are by definition liars, out only for themselves? Is there another way? Perhaps culpability, and an acceptance of personal responsibility may reverse our sad decline, and remove the morally reprehensible shower we tolerate
david small, our selfish indifference to what?
naomi24 our indifference to making the effort to enforce more honesty from the people we elect. Cronyism, I’m alright jack, it won’t happen to me attitude. We have to take responsibility for what happens. Educate our educators. Police our police force.
Overseeing the direction in which we are heading. Not just looking out for ourselves. Rant over.
David small, how are we to enforce more honesty from the people we elect when dishonesty and double-speak is now endemic – and indeed encouraged – not only among our politicians and the media but within our society as a whole? For example, when did you ever see a mainstream political party that prides itself on blatantly and quite openly ignoring the will of the electorate – and moreover, a party that still manages to engender considerable support? What happened to honour and integrity? You tell me … because I haven’t a clue.
That’s my point. We shouldn’t have to enforce. We should, but don’t have the innate morality to do the right thing. Integrity should be, but isn’t our ideal. If as a species we eventually evolve intellectually and spiritually we won’t do it with me me me attitude, nor by knife or gun. Dire times indeed when dishonesties abound and are rewarded.
Honour and integrity left on the boat that brought us the spin doctors and special advisers.

The lowest form of life.
David/Douglas. What’s to say? So disheartening. I might post something in Society & Culture tomorrow. Night chaps.
