// School is just free child care up until year 9. //
So does that mean anything children are taught up til then is wasted? I'd always believed the early years were the formative years...when children are like little sponges absorbing all that's thrown at them. That's when good study habits are formed, and interests and talents are established
"So does that mean anything children are taught up til then is wasted? "

No, it just means it's generic info they pump out to all the little ones. It means, they are not being taught anything they wish to be taught, they're simply in a care system with a generic one size fits all teaching glove.

I mean they are learning.. but just generic info aint they nothing specific to the future fields they'll be working in.
Oh darn....I worked my socks off, Spath...teaching children, children with learning difficulties and deaf children using BSL. I really thought I was teaching them. Didn't realise I was just free child care. Thank you. :-(
For very little children, social skills and the basics of maths, English, science, etc etc are fine. I don't think children need to "specialise" until they are at least teenage.
"Didn't realise I was just free child care."

you're not 'just' free child care. You're also their educator. But you are free child care.
Kids aren't taught critical thinking. At all.

Up to year 9 who knows what the future fields they'll be working in will be.
give a man a fish, he eats for a day, teach a man to fish, he eats forever. Give a kid knowledge, well done he learnt something. Teach a kid how to obtain knowledge and work things out, and he'll learn his entire life.
What do you mean by that? And how do you know? Children are encouraged to work out things for themselves, if that's what you mean?
"Kids aren't taught critical thinking. At all."

Oh yes they are - well at Private school at least.
Spath. You need to ask my SENCO if Gness just pumped out generic info! That'd make her laugh.

Perhaps if you'd paid attention before Year 9 we would not be reading paragraphs such as your last one at 15:22.
I refer back to my link at 15:23 Tue 02nd Apr 2019

gness your situation sounds like one i'm unaware of personally. I can only talk for state schooling.
"Perhaps if you'd paid attention before Year 9 we would not be reading paragraphs such as your last one at 15:22."

Yes, that is a fair comment. Perhaps. But doesn't that show an issue with how i was taught? I was only a kid back then, can't be my fault surely?
In my experience, having been to both, the only difference between state and private schooling is class size. Not difference in methods.

ENGLISH???????

Why, some of their parents can't even speak it.
What do you mean...my situation? I worked in a state school in a fairly deprived area. Both in the school and in the Hearing Unit attached to the school.
I have worked in both Junior and Comprehensive Schools.

You really are becoming very thoughtless and offensive, Spath.
"hildren with learning difficulties and deaf children using BSL."

That is what i was referring to. From your answer i thought you specialised with kids with difficulties.
I was simply saying, i've no idea how that is. I can only talk for the normal processI didn't mean to be insensitive i'm sorry if i caused insensitivity.
Was that necessary AGO?

Do you know the answer?

Should Parents Even Be Allowed To 'home School' Their Children?
