Shame. I’d like to think that it was succumbing to peer pressure in order to ‘fit in’, but then that would be a poor reflection on the other Guardsmen who are drug-free.
Just a reflection on modern society I guess.

Ah spicerack... The men who stared at goats
Douglas - quit while you are ahead, the others may become sikh of your amusing one-liners
Sikh and fired
Slightly disturbing that he is the only one named.
Question Author
Indeed they did Spicerack, but in measures doses.

Plus, there’s a difference between having it issued and sniffing an unknown quantity up your hooter.
Don’t want someone ‘wired’ around me with a semi automatic rifle or a grenade!

Given his profile and the story only a couple of months ago it was rather inevitable.

Would those Guardsmen under investigation and found positive be charged under Military Law and sentenced to a spell in Colchester prior to DD if found guilty?
Retro, I don't think this will result in a court martial, which would be necessary for a prison sentence being imposed.
Question Author
Retro,
In my experience it was usually 28 days and out, which meant 4 weeks in Regimental jail then discharged.
Sentencing guidelines may differ greatly today though!
Chill Doubt, in my day drug taking was unheard of.
One of three.? Have the other soldiers been named and made the media headlines ?
"Data obtained by The Sun newspaper under Freedom of Information laws indicate that nearly 1,000 members of the British military have failed drug tests in the last year". Interesting that the media decided to focus on this particular 0.1% of them.
Question Author
Ditto danny, it was a rare occurrence in mine too, especially in West Germany, it wasn’t so ‘recreational’ for soldiers whilst based in BAOR as opposed to UK.

Modern society makes it far more accessible, regardless of where one is based.
the Chair.

" Interesting that the media decided to focus on this particular 0.1% of them."

The word is interesting and interest sell papers for which the Sun is in that business,Guardsman Smith or Guardsman Williams would not have rated a story, but we have the first Sikh to serve in the oldest regiment in the British Army and was given the privilege of not wearing the head gear .......is found positive to cocaine.

Yes......that IS interesting.

/// Its not fair his pic should be all over the news when others were involved. ///

That is the downside of being a 'celebrity' the authorities and the media, had given him celebrity status and now he must suffer the consequences.
It's always disappointing when Military personnel fail tests such as these, 1,000 in the last year is a dreadful number.

The waste of the cost of training and the disgrace they bring to both their force and families is awful.

/// and was given the privilege of not wearing the head gear ///

In fact he wanted to wear the bearskin, but was prevented from doing so.

""new change in history""
yeah, dont worry about our traditions and customs etc...lets change to suit an ethnic who knew what the uniform was before applied...

but hey lets focus on his drug use instead...
AOG...Ah! I didn't know that.
There were hundreds of answers when this chap hit the news before.
Strange that this more important (imo) story hasn't really got much attention.
