Shame. I’d like to think that it was succumbing to peer pressure in order to ‘fit in’, but then that would be a poor reflection on the other Guardsmen who are drug-free.
Just a reflection on modern society I guess.
Plus, there’s a difference between having it issued and sniffing an unknown quantity up your hooter.
Don’t want someone ‘wired’ around me with a semi automatic rifle or a grenade!
ChillDoubt
Would those Guardsmen under investigation and found positive be charged under Military Law and sentenced to a spell in Colchester prior to DD if found guilty?
Retro,
In my experience it was usually 28 days and out, which meant 4 weeks in Regimental jail then discharged.
Sentencing guidelines may differ greatly today though!
"Data obtained by The Sun newspaper under Freedom of Information laws indicate that nearly 1,000 members of the British military have failed drug tests in the last year". Interesting that the media decided to focus on this particular 0.1% of them.
Ditto danny, it was a rare occurrence in mine too, especially in West Germany, it wasn’t so ‘recreational’ for soldiers whilst based in BAOR as opposed to UK.
Modern society makes it far more accessible, regardless of where one is based.

The word is interesting and interest sell papers for which the Sun is in that business,Guardsman Smith or Guardsman Williams would not have rated a story, but we have the first Sikh to serve in the oldest regiment in the British Army and was given the privilege of not wearing the head gear .......is found positive to cocaine.
""new change in history""
