Congratulations to them :-)
Mamyalynne, yes ... it was rather obscure.
heterosexual couples who nee donor sperm also dont know the father -are they all selfish too?
Perhaps they DO know the fater and the father will be in the (potential) child's lide
It isn't now - phew.
sorry about the typos
Mamyalynne, having thought about it, that's not right so I'll try again. No it wasn't obscure at all - it's just that you didn't say the first time what you said the second time. That's better.
Grand.
I shall refrain from further comment as the naughty step is not good for my haemorrhoids.
Common in pregnancy Jack.
Everyone should have the right to know who their father is . Thinking of pregnant women being asked re medical conditions in their parents and grandparents. Just imagine not knowing if one of them had a hereditary condition.
One of the biggest advantages to being gay (well, for me at least) is that there is far less social pressure to have children. I think my life would be considerably worse if I had that pressure on me, as my straight friends and relatives do. Evidently Davidson and her spouse feel differently and can afford to raise a child (though whether it is ethical to have children at all is another question).
Andres, I largely agree with your points.

//If you use a donor through a licensed UK fertility clinic there are very few risks. Your donor’s family history will be checked to make sure they don’t have any serious genetic diseases that could be passed onto any children you conceive.

They’ll also be checked for infections including HIV, hepatitis, syphilis and gonorrhoea. If you’re using a donation from someone you know, but are still having treatment at a clinic, they’ll go through all the same checks.//

Mamyalynne, now I'm confused. Do you think it acceptable for the father's identity to be withheld from a child as you indicated in one post. or not - as you indicated in a subsequent post?
Mamya’s ‘grand’ comment would seem to indicate that she’s bored of the debate and kinda wants to leave it at that. IOW she can’t be arrrrsed debating with no more.
I don't believe I indicated that at all, I indicated that we the public should not expect to be informed of all the details surrounding Ruth and Jen's IVF.

Absolutely the child should know and also if done correctly as outlined above then there will be background on medical history etc of the donor.
Ooops
Jordyboy asked.

//Please excuse my ignorance IVF does she know who the father is?//

I replied

//I'm not sure whether Ruth and Jen have gone into those personal details, and I don't blame them if not.//

I further explained what I meant and you seemed to understand.

I'm not sure how we have arrived at such cross purposes - I have asked others (not from here) if they understood what I meant.

They did.
Maymalynne, confirmation that the donor is risk free doesn't equate to revelation of his identity. Nevertheless, I'm pleased you agree that a child should be made aware of that - if indeed that's what you're saying.
Risky business donating sperm to lesbians. You could end up paying maintenance.
Well I never really touched on it in previous responses as they referred to the question asked but yes I do - Men of course should be prepared for that as donors.
