/// ‘Now we would question a 13-year-old boy having sex with a 28-year-old woman. In the past that was more likely to have been accepted. But if you reverse that, it is obvious that a 28-year-old man having sex with a 13-year-old girl is abusive. ///

Cultural attitudes vary and evolve.

Up until relatively recently, a story of a thirteen-year-old boy being abused by a twenty-eight-old woman would have aroused howls of boorish men's laughter, and many comments about being 'educated by an older woman' and 'getting in there' and similar nonsense.

Fortunately in our more enlightened times, this can be seen for what it always was, and is now acknowledged, as sexual abuse of a child.
Thank goodness for the shift in attitudes, well done to the victims coming forward more readily and even better these offenders are being convicted.
its an incredible breach of trust on behalf of the teacher who got 12 months, don't they realise the damage they are doing.

Would it? Not in my era it wouldn't. A thirteen year old boy would have been just that...a 13 year old boy. Add another 3or 4 years onto his age, then i may well agree with your above statement.
This highlights that fact that regardless of whether the victim is a boy or girl consent does not mean that it is not abuse.
A child is too young to give consent in the proper sense of the word and this shift in attitude will help all children who have been abused.

I don't believe for a minute that there is an increase in the number of women abusing children - the only difference is that more victims are able to report it and the authorities are more likely to act.

This is a definite step in the right direction.

If a thirteen year old boy has reached the level of physical (but obviously not emotional) maturity to engage in sexual activity, then in 'my era', he would have been seen as 'lucky to receive an education from an older woman'.
A-H...LOl...OK, then we must be talking about different eras.
I am more with sqad, thirteen is too young for the "get it in" type of comment even years ago.

Unless perhaps you are now the French President?
I agree with sqad. At thirteen my interest was comics and bikes.
Intellectually, as adults, we may see it as abuse and react accordingly. But we are all well aware that had we been in a position to get such private education at a loung age that would have been a dream come true. (In fairness such an education is far less invasive for the male of the species, which may account for part of the tolerance towards it.) In the above specific case, well ok, 13 is beyond, but at 14 I'm sure I'd have been curious and by 15 very interested, and only shyness cause a possible issue. Indeed there were a few older ladies I knew I rather hoped might, but I wasn't that lucky.
