Some time I washed a feather pillow and it never recovered. Was drying for a long time and I ended up throwing it out.

I do have the above and it could be doing with a wash and there is a label on it saying it can be washed.

Has anybody washed a down duvet and been successful. Thanks

I'd err on the side of caution and have it dry cleaned

ok Minty - I did view Amazon there and there is something similar for £32 - think that's not bad cos I spent a lot of money on this one but maybe things have got cheaper
I buy cheap duvets (£6 in Asda) and simply throw them away when they need cleaning, so I'm no expert on this subject.

However everything I've read about washing them in the past has said that washing them in an ordinary domestic washing machine is to be avoided, as they need space to expand during the wash. So the usual advice seems to be to seek out a launderette which has extra large washing machines.

Also - would anybody put a king-size duvet on a double bed for "presentation".
Question Author
right Chris - there are very large machines not too far away from me - but it is the drying that would be the problem
Most launderettes have big dryers Conne
I always have a king size duvet on my double bed.
My super king is not for presentation,it's so I don't get a cold back when Mrs Sam forces me to the edge.
If the item is made in channels rather than squared, you can push all the filling to one end, and wash the other end - by hand of course. Then when that end is dry, push the filling back to the opposite end and finish the wash. I have done this with a down quilt, and it worked, but it wasn't easy to iron it. If you want the filling cleaned as well, you must dry-clean it.

well went for a new duvet as I tried to wash one of the pockets of the duvet - knew right away it was a disaster. And also the stain wouldn't come off.

New one ordered - got a lot of great reviews and it was about £60. Dry cleaners couldn't have got that stain out. It seemed to be tea ingrained
Hungarians disapprove of drinking tea in bed JJ. ;-)

Glad you got yourself a new cosy duvet.
Question Author
Well slept with new duvet last night and it was simply divine.

I also succeeded very well in putting a cover on it as well which I find difficult to do but used clothes pegs to "guide" me.
