A very calm and measured response from the victim, file it in whatever box you wish but stabbing anyone is a heinous thing to do.

Senseless idiot.

Idiots according to the Police.....by the way, check out the John Peel thread !
I'm certainly not defending the attackers' actions, Mikey, but I doubt that they either knew or cared whether he was a surgeon, a shopkeeper, a taxi driver or anything else. They probably just saw a guy going into a Mosque, with that being enough to make him a 'target' in their eyes.
Question Author
Chris....yes, probably correct. In fact, even if they knew what his profession was, as racists they would probably still have attacked him.
//as racists they would probably still have attacked him. //

So they are racists not people angry at what some Muslims are doing to our country/?

And no, I am not defending them.
maybe they are people who are racist and are angry at what some Muslims are doing to our country so they lash out at any Muslim under the 'collective responsibility' theory.

YMB....Yes, I realise that you are not defending the attackers..but lets face it........who would or could ?

The Police have described this as a hate crime, and I couldn't give a monkeys what twisted logic the attackers use to justify their actions. They would appear to have attacked this man precisely because he is a different race too them.

If that is not racism, then what is ?
Or maybe a different religion.

Why do you keep ignoring that fact as it is more likely the problem.
Just out of interest will you be descibing the next Islami terrorist a racist? I somehow doubt it.

These people, on all sides, are (attempted) murderers and should be treated as such.
It might, on the other hand, turn out to be someone who knew the victim- maybe nothing to do with race. We need to wait for more info I suggest
Can't see why his profession is relevant. Is stabbing a surgeon worse than stabbing a dustman?

//They would appear to have attacked this man precisely because he is a different race too them. //

I'd guess they did it not because of his race but because he is Muslim.
True ff but it is claimed the attempted murderer was making anti muslim comments.
Altricham is on the outskirts of Manchester where on 22 May this year a shrapnel-laden home-made bomb was detonated as people were leaving Manchester Arena following a concert by the American singer Ariana Grande. Twenty-three people were killed, including the attacker, and 250 were injured. The atrocity was carried out in the name of Islam.
This is an equally senseless attack, but at least it was only on one individual, as to his profession, it is as irrelevant as it is of those in the Arena massacre.

YMB...for someone who has said that he isn't defending these attackers, your condemnation is somewhat luke warm.

I haven't seen a photo of Dr Nasser Kurdy, but I would expect that he isn't lily-white.

But what difference does it make if he was attacked because he was Muslim or because he isn't lily-white ?

If I said that the attack was motivated by religion, rather than race, would that make you happier ?

It was an unprovoked attack on someone that would appear to just the sort of person we need in this country.
Well in fairness Islamic terrorists are not all that discriminating about who they murder - they even consider most muslims to be infidel, so quite happily kill them too. So "racist" would be less accurate than "religious lunatic" in their case.

I think the reason people apply "racism" to this kind of thing is because people with this kind of attitude to muslims often conflate "muslim" with "arab", and because they think in a "collective responsibility" way, where all members of a given demographic are accountable for the actions of other members. Your Islamic terrorist doesn't hold his victims "responsible" for anything except existing and not being the right kind of muslim.
Question Author
Khandro.....make you mind up....are you condemning this attack or not ?
Khandro said //This is an equally senseless attack//
I think that goes without saying, Mikey!!
Question Author
Ummm...yes, you are correct, but there are those on here that would argue the toss about every little detail, in order to obfuscate this issue under discussion.
