Just been watching the dreadful Home Secretary, Amber Rudd. Like a previous HM Theresa May, she is completely out of her comfort zone.
Internment is not an option she says.
Internment was certainly an option in N. Ireland when we suffered at the height of the IRA campaign.
Hundreds of innocent Catholic and Protestants were trailed from their beds and interned for years without charge. In fact never charged.

Surely on May 8 we are not going to get the likes of these two imbeciles elected to drag the UK out of Europe!

Which two imbeciles would you nominate to take their places?
1. Yes, we are going to have them in post.
2. There's always electronic tags and house arrest. Internment unjust and counterproductive. Think Bobby Sands.
Well needawin....Unless something very strange happens, we will be getting more of the same on June the 9th.

I would imagine that internment will only be considered as a very last resort.
Interment was tried in Northern Ireland in 1971 it was a disaster , just caused an increase in violence and more sympathy for 'The Cause'

It will fail again if tried, I have previously posted the same link in answer to people who post that mass imprisonment without trial is the answer to the 'Terrorist Threat'!
"Surely on May 8 we are not going to get the likes of these two imbeciles elected to drag the UK out of Europe! " - err what drivel are you talking? The people decided to leave the EU last June, nothing to do with these two.
Would you rather leave it to dear Diane Abbott?
Hellywelly........I am no fan of Abbott, as I have pointed out many times on here, but I am even less of a fan of internment.
As Peter Hitchens rightly stated, THOUGHT is required not a show of FORCE...
yeah stuck with the tory party,For Funks Sake. on a lighter note mrs merkel say's can't depend on us or uk,amber rudd send's a message you can depend on uk, mrs merkel there's a good little girl amber
Ah well. Let them slaughter our children. Let's not be harsh. Let's sing songs and recite poetry. That should do the job. Another 12 dead kids next week? Sing a bit louder? Lay more balloons? For goodness sake. We need to hit back.
Yes, internment is the solution as I've advocated all along.
To use NI as an example is fruitless though. That was some 45 years ago, before electronic surveillance techniques etc.
Those suspected in the 21st century are under scrutiny for very good reason, hence it's not so indiscriminate.

Given that the Manchester maniac was flagged to MI5 on at least 3 separate occasions it's time for a sea change in the law and the introduction of draconian(only to the lefty Corby types mind) but sensible measures to combat terrorists.
internment should remain an open option. There is no single solution to this problem so we need to adopt varied ways of dealing with it. That means, for some, internment. Other cptions could be tagging or deportation.

I agree with chilld, using the Irish example is not necessarily relevant in this case. Different problem altogether.

Is Rudd up to the job, no I dont think so. I would like to see someone with Military experience in the role.
Internment of whom, sorry?
Those already on a Watch List Kromo.....like Abedi for example....bit too late for him though.
Whoever it is needed for. I dont think there are any individuals that should be named on here.
I assume needawin isn't suggesting "Hundreds of innocent [muslims] [be] trailed from their beds and interned for years without charge."
There is a strong case for internment though for those known to be actual/likely IS supporters
Krono: Internment of people who pose a threat to the safety of British citizens, Muslims, of course, included. Don't think the bomber checked there were no Muslims in the Arena.
FF....we can't even stop people like Abedi going to Libya, let alone intern them.

In principle, I can't really see the problem with arresting people on the Watch List, provided all the legal niceties are observed.
There are estimated to be 23,000 potential Jihadists in Britain. That's almost 30% of all UK jail capacities. I'm pretty sure they'd all love to be put into little contact clubs to pass on their 'skills' and intensify their hatred of us.
As I've said elsewhere ZM, 6 months incommunicado. No visitors, no Koran, no prayer meetings, no association. Draconian yes, but I'm all for it when children specifically are targeted by suicide bombers.
