Fair enough.
had to happen some time or other, this is just one mind you, black and openly gay, that has to be good for the future of diversity.
im looking forward to Dr who coming back - it's been off too long
admittedly i don't watch it.
Idris Elba has been approached to play a white, cross dressing female in an attempt to break down gender and racial stereotyping on television.
It's even worse that you feared AOG: the next Doctor may well be ... female
Whoever heard of lady doctors. Honestly.
Didn't have them in my day! But it was all black and white then. You know....back when Bwitan was Gweat.
Disgraceful, why is she not disabled as well. An opportunity missed.
That thought crossed my mind too Togo but I didn't have the cojones to say it.
Big Dr Who fan are you ANOTHEOLDGIT? Have you complained to the BBC yet? A shame you're not paying a TV licence still or you could refuse to pay it as a protest.
Can't wait for the new series.
Show that regularly features talking spuds, attack salt and pepper pots has a gay character and that is news?
I'm looking forward to the new series enormously & don't care what any new characters' traits are, as long as they're interesting people & their storylines are good.
Tom Baker was my era with DR. Whomever... But the beeb trying to be diverse... what about that camp robot talking dog. I have no problem with folks sexual desires... or connotations. We all know though that dogs will hump anything.
Dr Who debuted on television in November 1963.

That was over half a decade ago.

In that time, there has been in the region of fifty 'companions'. There really isn't a problem with one being black, or gay or biracial.

It's fine.

Few people are really bothered.
Welcome to 1968. :P
Good we need more diversity in the industry. Too often you find castings for generic roles in things that could be played by a white person or a BAME person, a gay character or a straight character, a man or a woman without any of those factors impacting on the plot whatsoever yet they are specified for white males between 25-35. The industry recognises this and is trying to act upon it, it's not merely being politically correct for the sake of it, although nice to see that black lesbian females can be held as positive role models for kids, it's actually because there is a massive employment problem in our industry for BAME actors.
Looking forwards with great gusto. Another prog for my expanding list of perm switched off features.

Why?

What upsets you about this?
William Hartnell was your Dr Who; I hope you appreciated him at the time.
