A Conservative spokesman said: // "there needs to be a review of how the Electoral Commission's processes and requirements could be clarified or improved". // Translation: We are very miffed to have been caught out, and resent the record fine. The Electoral Commission is now on our hit list, and we will disarm it as soon as possible.

There is a rarely convened Election Court. That can be invoked by a lising candidate, if a criminal investigation is proven.

That was invoked in Oldham East and Saddleworth in 2011 after a Libel of the LibDem candidate by the Labour candidate was first proven in a criminal Court. The Election Court then ordered the re-run.
With the Tories currently enjoying a 19% lead in the polls I don't foresee many bye-election losses.
More about Election Coyrts here.

Jackdaw,
You are probably right. But the constituencies targetted by the Battle Bus were all marginals. In Thanet, Farage came a close second.

Being discussed on the Today Program NOW
S L E A Z E , They are at it again , the Con Party boys!
// The Electoral Commission's chief executive Claire Bassett told BBC Radio 5 live the investigation had taken much longer than necessary because of "some difficulties" in getting information from the Conservative Party.
She added that having had to get a court order to get information was "very disappointing". //

PS: Claire Bassett was very good on the Radio.

Gromit....I have just listened to her being interviewed by Humphrys and if every person on the program gave such a good and well-explained performance, I would for, for one, be better pleased.

Sam...last year, the Labour Party was fined £20,000..
This year, the Tories have been fined £70,000, and Police forces all over the country are investigating wide-spread fraud, in at least 20 constituencies.

Quite a difference !
Not really.
I think you should change the BA for mine above. ;)
It's not a difference at all.

They are all at it and it needs stopping. Electoral fraud or illegality is not something to be used as a political football it should be stamped out with all vigor.

Off topic Sam ! The Tory Party is on the back foot here...get used to it, because this issue is going to run and run.
Be honest, mikey. I tucked you up, big time, Lol.
Question Author
