Which will undoubtedly turn out to be 20 months.

The law in this country is a joke sometimes.

//Snellgrove lost his temper and shouted at Mr Galvin before pushing him 'forcibly' into the road. He then attempted to help him up but discovered the pensioner was seriously injured so fled the scene in Gosport //

What a vile cowardly piece of scum he is, pushing a pensioner. Lets just hope Mr Big enjoys him in the 20 months so we get some sort of justice.

Thank you - I stand corrected.
^^ All correct. But if Snellgrove had been ' of previous good character ' with no criminal record and shown remorse the sentence would have probably been a conditional discharge or a suspended sentence. He only got 40 months due to his criminal record!

You'd watch that? Good grief, words fail me.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR & some say on here I come over angry, are you supposed jump with joy when you hear reports like this.
No, you are supposed to accept that this is how the law works, and then get on with your day.

The alternative is to brood on it, which is futile and hurts your head.
No TWR you can query the length and suitability of the sentence in a measured way or campaign for Fender's choice of retribution (shudder).

I know which I prefer.
fender62 I disagree completely with what you said at 16.42 , but I have real life expierience of a similar situation.
I lived in Zambia where there was a system of 'instant justice' .
An elderly lady had her house robbed, a while later she got a phone call from the police. They said ''we have caught the man who robbed your house, do you want to beat him yourself or can the Sargent do it for you?
It is not the length Mam, this person was known like others for violence, hell of a thing when you can not go about your daily life's without scum like this doing something like that to an innocent decent person.
It isn't the sentence that annoys you? Well it seems lenient to me but as I say I am no lawyer.
He was known for violence Mam.
TWR as I said if Snellgrove had been a first time offender he would probably have got a conditional discharge or at most a suspended sentence!
It is due to his long criminal record that he got 40 months for what is ,like it or not, an accidental death !
That push would not have killed or even injured a fit person. The victim had an abnormally thin skull that meant when he lost balance due to the push the fall caused brain damage.
The perpetrator can only be sentenced for the push, his long criminal record moved the sentence for that push up to 40 months , far longer than a person with a clean record would have got for the same offence!
Yes I know that TWR, are you therefore implying anyone who is convicted of a criminal offence is never allowed out at all? Just in case they commit a fresh crime.

We would need an awful lot of prisons if so.
^^ of a violent criminal offence - to make that read correctly.
Might need an awful lot of prisons Mam, but if the prisons were like they have in the likes of Thailand they would think twice of committing acts like this. I going to leave this now as it well annoys me. x
TWR I have worked inside a prison and talked to dozens, possible over 100, prisoners from driving offenders through to murderers. Not ONE of them said the thought of prison would put them off what they did or would deter them from doing it again!
No one ever considers that they would go to prison they just do not consider it. The death sentence does not deter murder places with the death sentence have more murders per head of population than places like us.
Yes , There are people who consider Prison as an occupational hazard and discuss various 'nicks' in the way international businessmen discuss hotels.
But they are career criminals and nothing will change them, they are also a very tiny minority of the prison population!
