Nhs Funds Need Urgent Boost, Say Mps

Pre-empting some enviable criticism of this post, this isn't being said by Corbyn or a bunch of lefties, or God forbid, some "anti-British"....its being said by the Health Select Committee.
This Committee is chaired by a Tory MP, who is also a Doctor.
To quote from the link..... "The Health Committee has written to the chancellor to say using the figure gives the "false impression that the NHS is awash with cash".

Mikey.....Over the years, many years, I have come. sadly, to the conclusion that I hesitate to believe any statistics, figures or studies that are produced by any aspect of the NHS......Sara Wollaston may be correct.....I have no idea.

I don't think it is necessarily unsafe.The problem lies in the fact that the NHS is such a big user of funds and both sides of the political spectrum have very different views on how it can be best achieved.Surely in the 21st century it is more important than ever for the NHS and Education to become apolitical and a consenus opinion on the running of both be sought for the good of all, be they left or right politically.

This statement is from the work of the Committee, not just its Chair. I have no reason to disbelieve the Committee and its conclusion.
As regards my oft-quoted remark of a sainted former Leader of the Tory Party, she said it, I didn't. I am merely quoting her.
Its quite clear from the work of this Committee that there is, and will be a serious under-funding of the NHS.
We can go all the way back to 1948 if you like and wish it was different, but we are where we are now, and we can't avoid the huge cost of people living longer. I don't make any distinction between Hospital care and the after care needed when someone is discharged. And nor should our Government.

The NHS does not need more money, what it does need it total overhaul.
Unfortunately people like you continually harping on abut the amount of cash spent on it means it has become political suicide to do anything.

WR, no point unless the NHS is overhauled. But as I said be fore that will not happen because of Mickey and his mates banging on about Tory cuts all the time.

“Independent” means little Mikey. It is a political committee. Politicians equate success with spending other people’s money. Spend more money, get more success is their mantra. As has been said, the NHS needs a radical overhaul. And I mean radical, not just faffing about at the edges, installing another layer or two of management and pushing on.
A good place to start would be with GPs. The Labour administration doubled their salary and cut their workload. I have a dodgy knee. I’ve had some treatment from the hospital and have been discharged. But I have told the problem will recur and probably worsen. But guess what? If the problem recurs I cannot just make a fresh appointment with the hospital. I have to see my GP first. For most ailments GPs prescribe asprins and if you’re not better or dead within a fortnight they send you to see somebody who knows what they’re talking about. And that costs £100k per annum per doctor. Of course they’re busy and overworked because they are seeing people like me whom they cannot help. For most people (not those who see a visit to the GP as a day out) all they need is a website: 1. “Type in your postcode” - 2. “Select your ailment from this drop down list” (Dodgy knees, bad guts, lungs not working, etc.) and up comes a list of specialists for you to contact. No GP necessary.
This is the sort of overhaul that the NHS needs. Thinking outside the box, doing the unimaginable. Chucking more money at it is simply cash down the drain. It also has far too many patients. But I won’t go there at the moment.
