If the Iraqi war was ostensibly to promote world peace and the current war on terror is being waged to ensure our futures why then are Bush and Blair not even being considered for the Nobel peace prize.

Dunno, but i'm sure you are going to tell us why!!!!!!

Any truth in the rumours that galloway and his self righteous lot have been campaigning for Al-Zakawi's name to be put forward...

I have nothing to say - but you asked for a response so here goes:

They're not going to win one because what they tried didn't work.  There is not peace in Iraq and the world is not free from terror.

Hope this is ok.  (Not the situation, the answer!)

You might be interested in a book "Rogue State: a Guide to the World's only Superpower". by William Blum, published by Zed Books, London or Common Courage Press, USA.  This is fully researched and referenced.
beats me... Henry Kissinger got one, after all...
Hi,  If anybody thinks the US is in Iraq for any reason except OIL then they are kidding themselves.   However its a valid reason because for those of you who don't know it the oil is starting to run out in all the producing countrys,   just google for PEAK OIL read and worry.

Practically choked reading that (I was having a sandwich!), Dom Tuk you wicked thing. I thought the News section was for serious questions?!!

No way am I taking the mick, Dom Tuk but this is my answer to your question.

No no foxy - it's for making a serious political point! lol

Ed will probably ban this comment for having a sense of humour - as happened earlier!! lol

janny_buggy, you mean Dom Tuk was making a serious political point or are you dragging me into your perverted sense of humour!!!!!!

Seriously, Dom Tuk, one thing I don't really follow is, do you think that Bush & Blair should have been up for the Peace Prize? With the amount of deaths they are responsible for, is that peace? War is being waged to have peace? Wow, 'tis a new one on me but perhaps that's my age. I don't believe war & violence are the answer(s) to tyranny, torture, despair, poverty... But surely neither do you after having seen the Iranian film I recommended. By the way, I couldn't find the thread re- exceptional films (Andy 008) so I never found the other titles.

hey Foxy Fagin you not an artful dodger are you.

no No Jan Bug was right I was only baiting her....but she still keeps thinking I am calling her a commie...but I am not.

You're not helping me find that film thread are you Dom Tuk - it seems to have completely disappeared!

BTW I gave you another suggestion on another thread http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Film-and-TV/Question148694.html
where I mentioned my favourite Cinematograapher of all time! All in all, an eclectic list appeared as the thread went on.

I'm surprised bug hasn't said anything about my use of her name - I really thought sh'd be here. Good for you sweets, you didn't bite OR you've not seen it yet. Ae, I'm sorry, I'm sorry!!!

Yeah but this was a LAME attempt at baiting me.  I've never once tried to argue that the invasion of Iraq has been a roaring succcess.  I've made my views on the war quite clear and I would never in a million years suggest that Bush OR Blair deserves any sort of award.  Neither of them is an exceptional leader, each country has had better.

Your point here wasn't about me being a commie (or a naive teenager) but about my blind love of the Labour party/Blair.  I've told you before that I think Bush is a prat and that I don't particularly like Blair but he's not (IMO) the demon a lot of people think he is.

So Dom Tuk, my lovely, if you're trying to wind me up, I KNOW you can do better than this!  Don't let yourself down!!!

Question Author

Foxy I had not seen that thread, a few for my dvd club choices. I tried to find the thread about film recommendations. It is question 125447 on film and Tv but it seems to have disappeared.

Bugs got the gown and hat sorted yet??

Still don't need one Dom Tuk - so still no!
Have you no films to add to any of the 'lists' Dom Tuk. I'd be interested to know them.

'war is being waged to have peace? Wow, 'tis a new one on me but perhaps that's my age. I don't believe war & violence are the answer(s) to tyranny, torture, despair, poverty'...

So we'll just keep having more tyranny, torture, despair and poverty...whats your solution to this then, instead of getting rid of the likes of the taliban and saddam by military force, just invite them for a cup of tea and a chat! how long have you been a liberal democrat supporter?

luckyboy - don't say that like it's an insult.  Try respecting other people's views when questioning them.  Go on, just humour me and show some respect!  If you respect other peoples' views, you might actually get an interesting debate about it.  If I were foxy.fagin, I'd be tempted not even to respond to that.

Which bit did you find insulting the association with the lib dems????how can you possibly say i meant that as an insult it was a perfectly valid response to a point she put across, i think you will find theres a lot worse responses and disrespecting going on here, don't pull me up for it!.. i'm sure foxy is a very nice person and if she took my retort as insulting then i apologise..

'well the answer looked pretty condescending to me.  Still, spose I shuld butt out and let people say what they like.
chance would be a fine thing!
Forget it bug, s.one wants to call me a liberal democrat supporter so be it especially if the person needs to copy my post out to remember what I wrote...
