In Muck you'd be considered Rum if you tried to encourage parents to Eigg on their kids to attain better grades. :-)

My ex's family are originally from Clare Island just off the coast of Mayo. They don't even have a school...two pubs, but no school. The kids stay with families on the mainland Mon-Fri.

It's beautiful both in winter and summer.

Not bad Sandy, not bad !
not one of my gold star attempts but it's too early for much better
Aye it looks nice to visit for a few months, but I'm informed that it's even colder up north than it is here down south !

Maybe the schools need to have the winter months off. Teach April to October.
Ummm, you'd know this song, then

No Sandy....that's a different Clare.
Right enough, Co Clare and Clare Island are different.
When I went to Clare Island the smoking ban had just been brought in. There's no police on the Island and they still enforced it.
I thought it was Gilbert O'Sullivan who sang about her.
It looks lovely. I'd take the job if I were a teacher and didn't have commitments down here.

Me too Cloverjo.....well, until November anyway !
Living on an island that small where I would be expected to regularly socialise with people and people might come and visit me would be my idea of hell. I have a handful of really good friends that I see, maybe, monthly.

Thankfully I am not a teacher and am not really keen on children either.

If I had to socialise then, no, I wouldn't take it either. Actually I'm not that mad about other people's children. Probably partly why I'm not a teacher. Can I go there and look after fish or cats or something?
I would love to live there if I were fit, but teach....... never!
I would surround myself with dogs and cats, chickens and goats and visitors would be welcome as long as they didn't just call in without notice. And I don't mind cold.
I love other peoples children.....for 1/2 an hour!
There are times I wish I was a teacher - I would love this.
