i've only skim read this thread so i don't know if this has come up previously -

in no way excusing or justifying but maybe - just maybe - the individual involved (I was going to say "responsible for" but that's probably inappropriate) has been failed by the psychiatric services.........?
Apparently he has a history of mental illness.
Should a man who'd been a client of psychiatric services, if that is the case, still have access to a firearm?

The Telegraph has some quotes from his brother confirming he has mental health problems.

No, of course not. From the description it didn't look like a standard gun.
They held a minute's silence for her this afternoon in the Canadian House of Parliament.

That's very touching Stuey. Thank you for letting us know.
Looks like yet another case of Care In The Community
In 2011, he was photographed by the local paper volunteering in nearby Oakwell Hall country park. The previous year he was quoted in the Huddersfield Daily Examiner, saying he had begun volunteering after attending Pathways Day Centre for adults with mental health problems.

“I can honestly say it has done me more good than all the psychotherapy and medication in the world,” he said. “Many people who suffer from mental illness are socially isolated and disconnected from society, feelings of worthlessness are also common, mainly caused by long-term unemployment.”
(Guardian report)
Quite eloquent for a screwball ain't he.
237SJ, I don't understand jno's rationale 20:08 - in fact I think it’s non-existent so the less said about that the better - but I think you could be right. So much for Care in the Community.
mental states don't necessarily stay the same for ever.
The things that everybody has been saying about her today on the radio makes me wish I had met her. What a nice lady, and what a terrible waste of a life.

My thoughts are with her husband and those two little kids....I can't imagine how they must be feeling today

Once again I agree Mikey, one cannot imagine the pain and anguish her husband, and her two small children are going through, not only now but into the future, may she rest in peace.

But please may I ask at this time not to turn this tragic even into a political football, sadly and it has always been so, whether one is a politician, policeman or a member of the armed forces, one carries the risk of being a target of those with certain mental issues.

Incidentally I have just head that the Asian gentleman has put a notice in his window denying the the fact that 'Britain First' was said to be heard.
AOG..........I can't see that anything I have said on this topic is remotely political, nor do I intend to.
AOG, do you think he may be trying to avert a visit from them?
Yesterday evening a white man stated on tv news that he heard the suspect shout those words.
The clip I saw showed he could not say for sure whether it was, "Britain First", or, "Put Britain first", that was said. Either way I don't think it makes much sense attributing too much to that, or trying to find any explanation in it. He was clearly not mentally right, whatever excuse he came up with is fairly irrelevant.

What government needs to do is discover why someone that badly gone was free on the streets, and how to prevent it; and also ensure there is no knee jerk reaction to isolate MPs from their constituents (although looking at ways to make meetings safer is no bad idea).

That request was not targeted specifically at you, but to contributors to this thread as a whole.
OK....yes, I think we all accept that AOG !
