I only learnt the correct meaning because it's been quoted so many times on here. I fully admit that if it was my child I wouldn't bother with the semantics.
Much has been mentioned on the definition of a paedophile. Less has been mentioned on the similarities to the Johnson case and the huge contrast in reactions.
I feel that's because there is a big difference in perception between a 15 year old girl and a 16 year old boy having sex with someone older. If the predator is a man that's considered abhorrent, if it's a woman (note term cougar) then it's almost titillating (anyone seen the film Class with Jacqueline Bisset)?
I prefer DTC's view on this that the teacher's role in school is in loco parentis, children in their care. That should be the mantra in all educational establishments. Agreed, if the scholars over the age of 16 and in agreement with the liasion, where would one draw the line? Some children are quite mature at that age.
