London (and, to a lesser degree, many other towns and cities) has indeed always been a “melting pot”. The difference now is the numbers. The report says 55% are not white British and 40% were born abroad.
The influxes and mixes in the past which have been mentioned were nowhere near that great. There have always been pockets of Jews, Chinese and many other races and creeds but I doubt if, in recent times, foreign blood made up anything like 55%. (In fact I’d be surprised if this is not an under-estimate and in many parts the percentage of “British whites” – for want of a better term- is probably in the teens or single figures).
I worked in Central London for almost 30 years and I saw its decline during those years. Not all of that decline was due to migration but much of it was. I visit the city three or four times each month and it is, indeed, a city populated predominantly by people of foreign extraction. It is often difficult to make oneself understood in shops, restaurants bars and anywhere else for that matter and it is often not a pleasant experience.
I don’t think Mikey’s mention of the Roman Invasion is very appropriate. That was a military invasion followed by an occupation by a force intent on expanding its empire. This is far more subtle and stealthy. Most importantly of course the Romans eventually quit the UK (not in small part because they could not quell the Scots). There is no chance of that happening with the latest invaders and London (and much of the UK) has been irrevocably changed - and not entirely for the better.

there's no political hyperbole in this article, it just reviews his book. he has no political agenda, he just tells it as it is. where he's used statistics (he doesn't like them, he says), these are meticulously researched, and sources quoted.
there are (he says) 600,000 illegals working and living in London. because they're illegal the owe millions (collectively) to the criminals that brought them here. they live in appalling squalor, and are paid virtually nothing. This is modern day slavery. and because unscrupulous employers in slaves, they're not going to pay a living wage to those who are legitimately living here.
How can the left-leaning posters on here defend such a situation? is it that our society must be culturally enriched at any cost, even to the point of tolerating slavery? can you guys really defend that?
