It is now believed that a bomb may have been put aboard the aircraft, just before departure, by somebody with security clearance, hence the "no luggage" rule today for the returning Brits.

Sensible precaution of you ask me, but I expect we will have the usual people moaning at the airport today. Better safe than sorry !

It said on the news they could still take on hand luggage.

The only time I've put luggage in the hold is when they've told me I had to free of charge (Monarch and Ryanair)

I would have thought that was fairly obvious.

What about the safety of the air crews who have to bring this luggage back to the UK?

Or will this luggage have to go through intensive security checks before it is brought back?

Not obvious to the Egyptian authorities though Naomi, as they still seem to be in denial here, including Egyptian president, Abdel Fatah al-Sisi.

AOG...I am guessing that the luggage will be subject to the strictest security possible, and by the British experts, not the locals. But I doubt whether any terrorist group will see much mileage in bombing an aircraft that has no passengers.
I can understand Egypt not wanting it to be classed a terrorist attack, but why is Russia being so cautious at putting the blame on terrorists?
If security checks on passengers are lax, imagine what they are like for airport workers. Therein lies the problem here.

Well, it could be plain old chauvinism AOG. Putin is unlikely to want to be seen to having been successfully attacked.

I agree Naomi...thank goodness I can't afford a holiday in all that lovely Sharm sun !
Ah of course the CIA....should have seen that coming.
