Great idea! If the idea of being helped to find a job puts people off using food banks, they can't be that desperate for food.
Excellent idea and it seems to have been useful where it has been trialled.

//It would mean people who use the charities could be given help finding work when they pick up the emergency packages to feed themselves and their families.//
Might put some of them off their dinner, Naomi. ;o)
:o)
I'm sure it is suggested with good intent but I can't see it working. I take it that it's not obligatory anyway. Most will say they already get advice elsewhere anyway, thank you. That if the government could ensure more job positions available they may have a better chance of getting one. Then get the food they want and leave.
A very sensible idea.
Maybe they should give food out at the job centre as well.

Your Link seems to have more positives than negatives gordie

Why, do you think some (but NOT all) users are scared they might be given a Job?

Ian Duncan Smith has created the need for the foodbanks in the first place with his tyrannical approach to welfare system changes it is rather ironic a very offensive comment naomi24 very patronising
oh here we go the perpetually offended....

I am not perpetually offended i am right
Perhaps Gordie you could tell us why you think having advice at hand is a a bad idea?
Many people who are forced to use foodbanks already have a job. They just don't earn enough to pay all the bills and feed the family too.
Many people who use food banks are working.

the advisors i have dealt with at the job centre are arrogant unhelpful and dont have a clue what they are doing. People may think that by using the foodbank they might have to look for work. The real problems are of course not being dealt with. Mass immigration is one of the biggest problem for poverty in this country. Look after our own people first before we help foreigners.
Question Author
I think it is a disgraceful situation in 2015 that there is a need for foodbanks.
You are right gordie, well said ...
I agree we should have no need for food banks for people working or rightfully claiming benefit, those should cover living costs.

However to forbid advisers based on your experiences thus far is knee jerk to me.
Did your sartorial elegance win over the interview board the other week or did your state of perpetual outrage and indignation shine through?

It seems a perfectly reasonable idea to have advisors on hand to help people back into work, a food bank seems to be a perfect place.
why shoukld not people have the opportunity to see a job advisor at the same time? If they already have a job, they wont, and if they don't they need to!
