Regarding the 'Cecil' costume - you have to ponder whether the dreadful absence of taste and humour demonstrated by the person who designed it, is eclipsed by the dreadful absence of the same from anyone who would actually buy it, and the wear it in public.

By the way - I do not consider myself to be without a sense of humour - thought I'd head off the usual negative responses!

Thanks Talbot.
I've never really understood fancy dress...these paticular costumes are moronic.
If people are like me and don't answer the door I wouldn't notice!

Not in good taste admittedly but the whole event isn't.
How lucky that we have people of good taste to guide us !
Too many precious little people around that love to get offended by everything and anything...seek and ye shall find...something to be offended by !
Anyone celebrating Halloween should be required to dress as themselves, that way no one can be offended.
I doubt you'll see little James aged 7 wearing these costumes trick or treating -they are aimed at adults and I can very easily see my 20 something older son donning one of these for a party - bit of a laugh like dressing up as a nun or vicar -or is that banned now by the professional 'outrageous'

Retrochic -"bit of a laugh like dressing up as a nun or vicar ..."

Do you think that is a valid comparison?

agchristie - "If people are like me and don't answer the door I wouldn't notice!"

I doubt (and seriously hope!) that no-one would embark on door-to-door TOT'ing in these costumes - I suspect they are aimed at party-goers.

TOT is very big on the state where I live - the accepted form is, if you are happy for TOT'ers to knock, then leave your porch light on, or ccurtains drawn back if you don't have one, and leave it off / curtains drawn if you do not wish to join in.

With five grandchildren, we do go TOT'ing (personally I loathe the nonsense, but hey, it's not the place to make a stand!) - and see many other families doing the same. I have never seen any adults dressed up at all, but kids are usually in kid's costumes, none of which are yet dragged down with this 'adult humour'.
I'd love to see the "Cecil the lion-inspired costume"......;)

I love Halloween and TOT.......I decorate the porch and hall......we have dozens of children and adults in the most wonderful fantasy costumes......

Treats for the littlies.....a drink for the adults and banter...but....

....if someone is stupid enough, or so ignorant as to arrive in a Cecil costume he'll leave with more than his tail between his legs.......
Ah,...just Googled + seen it.......;)

halloween approaches? they'll be saying that in november next
Fair point Andy though nothing would surprise me these days.

Some adults don't know any better - will be interesting to see if there are any reports of door- to-door Cecils!

Last year was the first year in over ten where nobody actually knocked. Maybe I've done too much growling myself ;)

Bathsheba - it's everything you'd imagine isn't it - right down to the 'Thumbs up' photo on the BBC website where I saw it - says it all really -

"I'm so sharp and right-on and ironic and humorous that I think this is really edgy and cool, and anyone who doesn't is just a miserable party-pooper. hey, let's partaayyyy!!!!"
If I saw someone wearing the lion costume, baz...I wouldn't be offended.

I would however look at them and think... What a ***, ***, ***, simpleton, *** for brains moron. (I wonder what parts will get by the sweary filter)
