They have a fantastic underground that puts London to shame really, and reasonably priced too

There's a direct train service between Bergamo and Milano Lambrate station. The fares are very reasonable. (Don't forget to validate your ticket in the machine near the platform entrance before boarding your train). The typical journey time is around 50 minutes.

The Italian Railways web site is notoriously unreliable but times for trains in any European country are available from Die Bahn (the German State Railway) at http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
(This web site is in English. It's not only useful for times for mainland Europe; I work for a train company and we all use it for UK train times - it's much better than National Rail Enquiries!).

Hoping this helps!

Chris
A bit more:
The 'transport' page at the official Milan tourism site doesn't work but there's some excellent information, in English, here:
http://ciaomilano.it/e/pubtra.asp
(Click on the 'ATM' link and a fresh window will open, with maps, timetables and everything else you might want - again, all in English).

The ATM travel site for Bergamo is also available, but only in Italian:
