Just wondering if any one can help! Im off to dom rep in oct but was advised by my travel agent to only take enough dom peso's for tipping and to take US dol's instead? I also read on the internet not so long ago that its illegal to use any other currency other than dominican peso?  I have spoken to american express regarding the subject and they have told me its illegal to take more than 400 worth of dom peso's in to the country? Have any of you peeps been and what did you take money wise? I would take dollars but im just vworried regarding exchanging them?

MANY THANKS

You will find whilst you are there that they price things up in $ and also in Peso.  I'd take a little local ccy to make sure you are familiar with the notes.  You may find that the local markets, beach bars etc may prefer Peso, but it depends on the individual.  If paying for something with dollars they may give you change equiv in Peso, depending on what they have in the till.

Take a bit of both and enjoy!!!   After 10 rum & cokes you won't care less.
