did someone drop a pound?

The most worrying thing is a) in all that time the police didn't arrive b) the public's main concern seemed to be getting it on their phones
..........and the soldier who was AWOL was arrested.....
someone eventually threatened to call the police... without wishing to be snarky, why didn't she just do it instead of threatening? Why didn't anyone else? There were dozens of people just standing watching.
Jno

There are about 100 CCTV cameras in Piccadilly Gardens. The police would have been alerted and hi-def pictures will have been taken for prosecutions.
you'd have to hope so, Gromit. But is calling the cops just not something people do any more? I would have, even though I'm far from a fan of the police.
There are about half a dozen PCSOs on duty in Picadilly as it is a very busy area. However, they probably would not try to stop such a brawl as they are usual 5'4" young girls.

Looked as though it might be racially motivated to me.
First thing I would have done. They are a rare breed these days.
JNO - "I'm far from a fan of the police" - yet who do you call when there's trouble?
Usually a plumber
Let's hope your only troubles are with your waterworks then, Daisy.
Last time I needed a policeman they were ineffective. Not their fault, the system and the inability of the courts to protect people.

Blackiequine, I don't think I've ever had any satisfaction from calling the police (just see if you ever get anything returned after a burglary, for instance). However, as I said, I would have called them on this occasion as they're better equipped to deal with it than anyone else.

If they turn up. I remember watching the riots on TV a few years back, seeing buildings burning, and wondering if any of the emergency services would ever turned up. They did, next day.
And it's only going to get worse. God help us.

That's not fair - and it's not true. Shame on you.

there are usually a couple of plain clothes police in piccadilly but they must have been busy on the other side of the wall
one lone woman tried to stop it, very brave.
did someone drop a pound?
//Those involved in a violent brawl in the city centre will be banned from Manchester, a council boss has vowed.//

We need this man in central Government.
