I fear for this boys rehabilitation and the future for the whole family. Blaming ease of access to porn is too simplistic; Growing up in the 80s there was always some lad at school that had found a discarded adult mag and it would be eagerly shared around out of parents/teachers view. Even at the age of this young lad. Admittedly not as readily available or...

why didn't the parents monitor his internet access?
I thought hard-core porn could only be accessed by entering credit card details to prove the viewer is over 18?
In a domestic setting victims of abuse often have feelings for the abuser.

She may feel differently as she gets older.
Familial love is very strong, so is the guilt of being a rape victim no matter how old or young the victim is.

She may not have been physically hurt if it was oral rape and maybe she feels guilty for telling and having him removed from the family home.
No Albs...there are loads of free porn sites.
Albaquerty, there is plenty of hard core porn on the internet that is totally free and unrestricted.
It may not have been on his pc, it may have been on a friend's laptop or smartphone.

The boy, now 13, pleaded guilty to rape, two counts of indecent assault and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
How did he escape with a non custodial sentence.
Very complicated affair this. You would need the wisdom of Solomon to work it out. The boy is only 12 years old.
Parents have no control over what their children and seeing outside the family home - kids are even looking at porn at school on laptops and smartphones.

it isn't just because he was viewing hard core porn, he raped his sister, and no one thinks that he could do it again. Or that it's unlikely, why?
Question Author
13 now, and 12 is old enough to know right from wrong.
He's obviously been assessed by a professional probably followed by counseling.
It is not that unusual for a child victim of child sexual abuse to want to see the person who abused them if they also love them as a parent/other member of the family.

We also have no idea of what the family set up is, what kind of counselling or support they've had, what the ages of the friends were that the lad was watching porn with (if they were significantly older then exposing a child to that kind of material is in fact also a form of child sexual abuse), whether the perpetrator has learning difficulties etc... It is massively difficult to form any kind of opinion without any of this information.
Thanks Ummmm and hc.
Never knew that about free porn.
True, no-one knows really what children view either in their own home or outside of it really.
The girl would want him back - he's her brother, she wouldn't understand how wrong it is....
Until she's older, Boxy....
emmie, they've read all the reports on the boy which would be extensive, he's been living away from the family since it happened and is still living away from home.

The authorities also know exactly what happened. I suspect this is a single count of oral rape of short duration and touching, with coercion rather than force.
Question Author
i don't he should be anywhere near her, they put him on the sex offenders register for 2 1/2 years, if they don't think he is likely to do it again, why would they do that.
Question Author
can see how this will impact on the little girl. and as you say more so as she gets older.
Probably because he will need to be monitored emmie to ensure that he is actually not a risk. If he does go back to live with his family then his sister will also likely be on a child protection plan to ensure her monitoring too and to ensure that her family can adequately protect her, (not just from her brother either).

As disturbing and distasteful as you find it, I think you need to understand that we are not in view of all the facts and you are making assumptions based on nothing.
As far as I can see, from the little evidence that we can read on the news report, the Court has done all that it could, under the circumstances. He's a young boy and needs the correct counselling, help and support. Throwing him into a young offenders unit will only teach him to be a better criminal.
