For right or wrong this man broke another country's laws, and instead of serving a prison sentence he is very lucky to be sent home, but have Britain any obligation to allow his partner to seek asylum in this country?

If so should we also welcome all those other Ugandan gays who wish to come and live in Britain?

Other Ugandan gays?
He's British. Or had you missed that bit?
Who can claim asylum :

It depends here whether being homosexual defines you as one of a social group. Somehow, I doubt it!

No I did not missed that point, neither did I say he was anything other than British.

If you actually read what I put, I was referring to his Ugandan partner along with other Ugandan Gays.

"Ugandan man he lived with claiming asylum in the UK."

yeah just what we need

if this were the other way round , there'd beno chance of getting him out, even uganda seems able to get rid of undesireables
perhaps he should have claimed his right to a "family" life and see how far that got him over there
Since when was a gay man "undesirable"?

I think that Baz was referring to the fact that they are in Uganda.
There is absolutely no mention of his partner in your OP.
This bit... "but have Britain any obligation to allow his partner to seek asylum in this country?"
Oops. My apologies.
Some may remember I posted a link to an on-line petition asking that a young Ugandan lesbian who was claiming asylum here be allowed to stay. She was forced to return to face the homophobia of her fellow countrymen.
We clearly don't welcome all those other Ugandan gays who wish to come and live in Britain.
If aliens can claim residency/asylum because they have a 'friend'in the UK then I might be prepared to befriend someone for a fee ( a very large fee) :o)
That could give an entirely new meaning to the phrase, 'Friends with benefits'.
/Since when was a gay man "undesirable"? /

I have never found any men, gay or otherwise desirable ... gay women? perhaps, how would I know they were gay?
The dungarees crew cut and doc martins? Stereotyping......nooooooo.

If you supported this Ugandan lesbian to reside here, why are you being selective regarding all the others who may wish also to reside here?
When I said, 'We clearly don't welcome all those...', I mean by 'We', the government. I favour an open door policy, particularly in regard to refugees and asylum seekers..

When you put, "We clearly don't welcome all those other Ugandan gays who wish to come and live in Britain".

Then why didn't you put the Government said "we the government clearly don't welcome all those other Ugandan gays who wish to come and live in Britain"?.

And perhaps you would also like to present the evidence that the Government said that?

All seems a bit of a cop-out on your part to me
When a government agency sent a young woman back to face the homophobic savages in her own country it seems clear, at least to me, that that deed is evidence enough of the government's mindset.
AOG

Can you spell out what you mean when you say that 'this man broke another country's laws', when he wasn't actually convicted?

Secondly, with regard to allowing his partner into the country, I am quite happy to provide a safe haven. If I were alive during WWII, and knew of the persecution of Jews in Germany, I would be perfectly happy to provide asylum.

But there's an error with your question.

The situation here is where a British man is applying for his partner to be allowed into the country.

That's different from proposing to allow all gay men and women from Uganda into the UK. But even if that was the proposal, I would be happy.
