I suppose it's not so much the price as the principle. Some of those shoppers had queued for 2 hours and more so were entitled to some reward. And, of course, the more cynical among them may have believed the whole thing to be a ploy by the management to get customers through the door.

I know the article states otherwise, but I find it hard to believe anyone would queue for any length of time for something that was 50p given that it's original price was only 99p to begin with Ken.

Further, i don't believe for one moment that people would have queued for so long for just the one item, boo. Perhaps some of them were spending 20 or 30 quid (doubled to 40 or 60 quids worth of goods). I'd say that was worth queueing for, based on today's lowest pay rates.

Ken, have you ever shopped in these places, i do on the odd occasion, i have yet to see anyone spend more than a fiver, you really don't want to be in there too long at any rate.

It is a shame the article only shows soft drinks and crisp shelves bereft, if the store also sells more wholesome foodstuffs (tinned veg/fruit etc) I can see that being a draw for families on a tight budget.

Emmie, in one of my local 99p shops (we have a few in sunny Burnley-By-The-Canal) they are offering £2 off any purchases totalling £10!

These shops are always packed in our area . And they do sell a lot of branded products . All kinds of groceries etc. Why pay more for goods if you can get the same items for much less in the 99p or £1 shops?
