But are they actually mice or some dreadful chimera cobbled together in a Dr Frankenstein lab?

nasty...I hate the way they call them "models" instead of living creatures.
I don't understand this but the pictures were cute. I have a feeling they are advertising genetically modified mice for experimental purposes, the cute mouse family portraits are there to try to make it seem more tasteful.
Ratty, its also intended to shield them from search engines to minimise folk like us (and PETA) finding out about them.
These poor, little, defenseless creatures are plucked out of cages and subjected to numerous horrors. Why can't we do that to the numerous degenerate and useless specimens locked up in larger cages? After all, they are much more of a "humanized " specimen, in a way, than the mice.

I wouldn't go quite as far as that Stewey. But you have a point.
Sandy, we could treat our larger specimens in a humane way. Prior to experimentation they would be given a sniff of ether, strapped down, and told to bite upon a bullet

Or told if they survived the experiment they'd get 50% off their sentences. Haven't they already done something like that in the USA?
