.....to come here.

What the hell is Cameron thinking?
We don't have the room, and public resources are strained, and if the Tory's don't get in at the next election, I don't think Labour will be any better!

How long before there is a shortage of Universities?
-- answer removed --
Read your own link! This is for students with a guaranteed place at a UK university to come here for study. The UK universities desperately need the income from overseas students to remain in business. Yes there will be a few that try to overstay but the huge majority just want a UK degree and then to return home for work.
AOG there is a huge surplus of university places , far more than the UK students can fill , overseas students pay the full cash price of their courses and subsidise UK students. Without the overseas students at least 50% of our universities would have to close due to lack or funds and students.
We would have far fewer universities without the income from foreign students.
Where in your link, trt, does it say other than Cameron wants "students, tourists and businessmen" to come ? Nowhere. Where does it say, in the text, he is opening the "floodgates" to migrants? Nowhere. Does it not say that he is committed to restricting immigration? Yes.

So what is your point? Foreign students get charged large fees, without any restriction on the amount. Is that not a benefit to the universities and colleges, and us ? Or do you object to businessmen and tourists?
Err, the headline

//Britain to open floodgates to Indian students and migrants, says David Cameron/
Yes, it does say for universities but then it says this:

//"There is not a limit on the numbers who can stay afterwards, so long as they are in graduate employment.//

So Eddie and Fred, suggest you read the link. Properly
We have graduates in this country who cannot find work, Indians are already being bough over through the back door.

I know this, I do Graduate recruitment for a large financial organization, in the last interview 75% were Indian to work in the UK.

An no, before you start, they live in India not UK and of Indian decant.
trt, you are right. Cameron really has lost the plot, but Labour are unlikely to do better.
We have graduates in this country who cannot find work

could be, but that isn't the same as being "in graduate employment", is it?

Not "graduate unemployment", note.

The headline writer has invented the bit about open doors to migrants.
Will he be doing the same and making the same offers to say Denmark or Norway or as usual is it only non white countries
Far and away the biggest student visa location is China three times the nearest rival

India and the US are in positions 2 and 3

Norwegians and Danes dont need visas
The headline seems to belong to another story, in the actual article it only says students, tourist and businessmen . The words 'floodgates' and 'migrants' are there just to stir up readers ,as has been successfully shown on here. Migrants move to another country with the intention of staying, the people this is about will come here for a time and return they will not be claiming benefits.
/Will he be doing the same and making the same offers to say Denmark or Norway or as usual is it only non white countries/
/What the hell is Cameron thinking?/

Well baz and trt

perhaps we should wait and see what he says when he's on a Trade Mission to those countries

/Speaking in India, where he is currently on a trade mission"/

From a business perspective, I doubt there is a significant sales opportunity in Denmark and Norway. They have very small populations and are already adequately served by universities.

Tertiary education is big business for the UK and a significant part of that value comes from 'exports'

/Universities in the UK contributed £3.3 billion to the economy in 2010-11 /
"Migrants move to another country with the intention of staying, the people this is about will come here for a time and return"

yeah , in your dreams....a few might return but its a dead cert once they see how many other indians etc are here and they suss it all out there''ll be a load of them deciding to stay
Ditto baz. I doubt many will study once here!
He is getting his instructions from USA because they want India to stand against China in that region...................but Indians will never do that and would only milk what they could.
