come to the capital and tell me that. We have the highest level of immigration in the UK, and picked up the asylum seekers, and illegals, it's not always a good thing, and some figure was presented the other day of how some 600 hundred thousand here who are now on the dole, can't verify those figures, but even if it's half, that an awful lot of foreign workers without a job and able to claim benefits. many students over stay their welcome as well as though that circumvent the rules by having a sham marriage, some will only see mass immigration as a good thing, makes for cheap labour for one, no wonder Blair and his cronies opened the doors wide enough for millions to pour in - can't see the ruling in Jan 2014 will do us much favours either.
it's costing the country dear in more ways than one.
Oh well then lets not bother with detailed study and careful anaysis of facts and numbers by professors at UCL

We'll just ask someone in London - their experience must be more reflective of the national situation!

Seriously though Mikey you're being a tad disingenuous aren't you?

The other study showed that earlier immigrants from outside Europe since 1995 were a net drain on the public purse largely because they had bigger famillies.

So the statistics are complex

Like I always say - we need immigration - but we need the right sort of immigration. Net contributers who are going to come and settle here and not just send the money home out of the country
Surely this study can only talk to or interview people who are in the "public domain" (working, paying taxes, claiming benefits etc).

What about those "missing" people (the illegal immigrants, failed asylum seekers etc) who are not in official work, don't pay taxes etc. Surely those people are almost impossible to interview and therefore are not included in a survey like this.

It is not all "good news" from immigrants.

What about this list of areas of uninsured cars. Some areas about 30% of drivers are uninsured.

Worst areas are Birmingham and Bradford, areas of high Asian population.

In fact I live on the edge of Birmingham and ALL the areas on the list from Birmingham have a high Asian population.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2036332/Car-insurance-30-drivers-Britain-uninsured-adding-30-premium.html

And why do you think that Asians like having "corner shops" (that mostly deal in cash)?

Because they can have their family working in the shop (but not pay them any wages and hence not paying any tax), plus much of the money coming in over the counter goes straight into the bank and no tax is paid on it.

The corruption and fraud amongst Asians is frightening, look at these Asians at Birmingham airport that was in the news yesterday. Supposed to be working on security and yet blatantly allowing people with forged passports to board planes.

About 10 people given sentences, and all Asian.

I live on the edge of Birmingham and our local TV news (Midlands Today) is always full of crime committed by immigrants, we had the Asian security guards story on last nights news. It gets so bad I have to give up watching it sometimes.

It is not all good news regarding immigrants.
for 40 years we have had an open door policy, right sort of immigration was never part of the plan, those who came to work in the 1950's were a different matter, those people from the Caribbean were mostly English speakers, always a help, and those worked on buses, in NHS, integrated and after some shaky starts got on with it, however what we are faced with now, is high unemployment of British as well as foreign born people, so why import ever more.
our borough according to one local source has 12/14 thousand asylum seekers, you would think that something could be done about that. That is just one borough how many more across the country, illegals in UK are a problem not just for us but for themselves, as they can be exploited by unscrupulous people, and they won't be paying tax, insurance, if they drive then that will be illegally.
Figures can be twisted anyway you like.

Without doubt there is a problem, and regardless of whether it is a 'net contribution' or not, no immigrant should be allowed in unless they are going to pay their way. End of.
> and they are paying taxes ! <

forget people from far off lands there are people from much closer countries that do not pay the taxes and have been doing so for many years
which is what i have said, that i can't understand how you can arrive in any country, whatever your nationality or whatever country without a pot to pee in. British go to live, retire in France, Spain, however they do so with money, usually from a house sale in the UK, and savings, they can't just go there and doss. Those that emigrate to USA, Australia, New Zealand have to have money enough to support themselves and a job to go to.
..What about those "missing" people (the illegal immigrants, failed asylum seekers etc) who are not in official work, don't pay taxes etc. Surely those people are almost impossible to interview and therefore are not included in a survey like this...

But they won't be claiming the dole and are therefore not a drain on the economy????

only they cost because border agencies, police and any other agency has to go out and about to weed them out. Not to mention those who traffic children, women into the UK to work in the sex industry, those women are innocent, however the trash that bring them in are not, and when caught go through the court system, more money, and end up in prison one would hope, more money. Not to forget that the young children will end up staying here, because like many who don't have papers, passport can't be sent anywhere. If you think that illegals don't cost the country, have a think again.
^ but they may be using health services, schools and other public services.

I think it's a complex area and I'm sure researchers could come up with figures to support whatever result they want
Sorry emmie- I was replying to dzug
>>>> no immigrant should be allowed in unless they are going to pay their way.

Trouble is many people are allowed in on short term visas - to study, to take part in a sporting event or entertainment event etc. - for example in Birmingham they often bring over Indian or Pakistani actors or musicians or performers to do shows in Birmingham.

But some of these people then overstay their visa and don't bother to go home. They get absorbed in the local Asian community and are almost impossible to ever find again.

So they were not allowed in as an immigrant as such but as a sports person or performer, but by over staying their visa the BECOME an illegal immigrant.

How on earth do you control that.

We were going to ask for a "bond" (of some money) off these people but I see on the news yesterday that the government have dropped that scheme, because Clegg would not support it.

Another reason for me NEVER to vote Liberal again (not that I do that often).
mentioned once before, i sometimes, for my sins watch the UK border agency programmes, and those that get through the system can and do disappear into the ether, those caught and are not always deported but left with a short residency order and then they abscond, and like those getting in on lorries coming through Calais, when caught, simply try and try again. They will work or not, or be like many in UK relying on refugee centres, we have one local one, and another a few miles away.
actually they can be using doctors services as already been discussed, doctors do not ask for residency, and even if they were asked, what GP service will turn them away, same surely for hospitals>
>>>>But they won't be claiming the dole and are therefore not a drain on the economy????

But they are probably working and not paying taxes.

Plus they are using our services (NHS, dentists, and others services)

Compared with living in say India or Africa the "value" of living in the UK must be worth thousands a year to a person.

Every illegal immigrant or failed asylum seeker who lives here and uses our services in stealing off you and me every day.
i heard that as well that the bond has been dropped, wonder why Clegg thinks it ok that some come here with nothing, will he support them, or begger off to some warmer clime when he finishes ballsing up the country.
They don't need to claim dole if they displace someone already here who otherwise would have got the job. The displaced person will claim dole in their place.

This sort of sleight of hand is unappreciated. I'm sure someone with an ulterior motive will be able to "prove" up is down, left is right, and black is white is they want to.
what a joke
Christian Dustmann is well know for his open arms stance to one and all.
Director of CReAM - Centre for Research and Analysis on Migration. I need say no more......

look at some of his past predictions....laughable article which also suits the leftie Blatantly Biased Chimps and their agenda.

The trouble with any research is that it is only of use if it supports or tends to support our own beliefs and prejudices. If it goes against our existing beliefs and prejudices it is, of course, useless because "it is only figures" or "you can prove anything with statistics" ( a comment never made by us if it is in the previous category. Strange, that)

As we all know that all immigrants are asylum seekers, criminals, and those who don't work at all or enough , and all come to sponge off the state; in marked contrast to our own people; plainly this research is wrong. Can someone point out in what ways, given its figures and arguments, the writers are in error in their conclusions?
