Are the Unions looking for a good old 1980's punch-up or is it the last breaths of a load of dinosaurs ?

Bonfire night should not last 5 days. They should not allow fires until the day of the anniversary. They should not allow fires tonight.

If fireman are unable to perform the tasks of the job because they are too old, then they should be moved to lesser paid jobs or asked to leave the job.

if it encourages people to play with fire more carefully, I'm all for it. While Halloween becomes ever more widespread, Guy Fawkes night, a genuine English tradition, is close to being deliberately suppressed.
I have no sympathy with them whatsoever. The number of fires they have to attend these days in which they have to walk into a burning building has reduced dramatically over recent years. Most of them have second jobs and to retire at 50 or 55 is ridiculous. There is lots of work they could do until 65 which isn't physically demanding. Let em strike if they want and government should not give in.

What exactly are the Fire Brigades supposed to do with their significant number of employees in their late 50s who (based on the three retired ones I know personally) have knees and backs so knackered they are physically limited in what they can do?
