If this comes into force thanks once again to EU rules, why does it say "every household in Britain" when only councils across England and Wales have been told they have to follow EU guidance, why are Scotland and Northern island not mentioned, are they not also in the EU?

I will not be doing as directed. I already separate my rubbish into three (paper/cardboard; bottles/plastic/cans; the rest). I also have a fourth option for food waste but I never have any food waste so do not use it. That is quite enough work for me.
The EU needs to mind its own business a little more. It has nothing to do with the European Union how the UK disposes of its waste so long as it does not create environmental damage which might impinge on other nations. Currently my local council separates my bottles, plastic and glass and I pay them handsomely and in advance to do so.

Not sure what is wrong with recycling aog...I have been separating out my garbage into different colour bags for years. Doesn't everybody do it, and if they don't, why don't they ? Its not rocket science. Today was a Pink day...plastic milk bottle etc. Next week it will glass, paper and cans.

The word is 'expected', not 'compelled' to. The Daily Mail does not, it seems, furnish us with the Directive itself, so we'll have to take their word for it, which , of course we always do as it is such a reliable newspaper of record, don't we ?
Our local council keeps a dark secret. They have a multi-million pound plant which does the separation of all waste; this village was consulted about its planning and construction (such an important parish council!); and some of our councillors were taken on a guided tour. We separate our waste, which helps, but it doesn't really matter very much.

Gromit, just because you only have 2 bins (3 if you have green waste) as I do does not mean it is dumped in a big hole.
The problem for some is storage, like I say not for me space is not a problem, big house big frontage but most don't have that so where do you keep it if you live in a 2 up 2 down, bog in back yard and front door right on the street?

I am not entirely sure what the problem is here. It would already appear that at least some councils already require residents to use more than 4 receptacles, so its hardly an imposition on them, is it?
More to the point - Do you believe in the the idea of waste recycling, AoG? If so, how do you think it should be done?

Whilst I am sure most of us agree with the fact that recycling has to be done - the practicalities are very different for different households.
Young couple for example starting out in a 2 bed terrace with a tiny yard, the only place for the children to play safely. That is now a bin storage facility.
Wheelie bins pushed under the windows of a house are a fire risk as stated by many fire officers over the years.
Ther are so many variables to consider.

OK, I can see where having lots of different receptacles can create problems for small households, or areas where space is tight, and can empathise - we have 3 large bins here in Herts, which are a bit unsightly - but its only once a fortnight I need to put out more than 1 bin, and recycling is imperative.
The alternative is that waste is sorted at the recycling plant, which as I understand it is pretty expensive- so would you rather pay more for your waste collection services for the convenience of just having 1 bin?

Anyway because they're so biased the BBC notes:

Anyone want a green bin? Years ago someone delivered, if that's the right word, some 200 green wheelie bins to this farm. They are still here. Enquiries have never revealed who brought them, nor where they originated, and none of the staff (a massive total of two) know anything and I certainly don't. Whoever it was , they were tidy; they left them in neat rows. I feel proud to have been selected for this honour; there is one for every house but every house has one.
