didn't girls go mad at elvis concerts?

Personally I probably wouldn't but I suspect you make a judgement based on the maturity of your child, number of people going and if indeed there's a parent been roped in to going because they don't want their child camping alone. It doesn't seem like a terrible thing to me at any rate or a sign of bad parenting.

Elvis? Did you see the scenes when Bill Haley arrived , with the Comets, on a ship from New York ? By gad, Blackboard Jungle and Rock Around the Clock had a lot to answer for !

Who is saying that 12-14 year olds are unchaperoned?

I don't think that's what's actually happening.
Incidentally, are 1D now Britain's biggest ever boyband?

Have any others actually succeeded in breaking America? I can't think of any others that have.

Cowell must be turning cartwheels...

\\\\\Who Would Allow A 12-14 Year Old Daughter To Camp Overnight In Leicester Square?\\\\

"Camp overnight" THAT was the question...yes Beatles, Rock around the Clock, Billy Haley.........I cannot remember any 12-14 year olds camping overnight.

I would never allow my 12 year olds and they were boys...............
According to Wikipedia, Rudolph Valentino's death caused "mass hysteria among his female fans". He died in 1926.Of course, we don't know from that how old these hysterical fans were, but it doesn't sound like the behaviour of mature women, does it?
Fred

\\\\ but it doesn't sound like the behaviour of mature women, does it?\\

Yes......have you seen some hen nights watching male strippers..........;-)
Sqad

But this is assuming that these girls are on their own...without older siblings or parents with them.

Let's change the question - would you have allowed your 12-14 year old to camp overnight with an appropriately aged chaperone, to see their favourite pop star?

Sqad, it wouldn't be safe for 12 to 14 year-old boys to camp overnight, not with all those 12 to 14 year-old girls about.

We don't know for certain whether anybody camped overnight to get a glimpse of Bill Haley, but do you think none, given the opportunity, the need, and the means to do so, would not have done? The mid-1950s were different in lots of ways from the present, economically and technologically, inter alia.

Yes............with an adult.
Fred....LOL......OK...OK
Male strippers, Sqad? Can't say that I have noticed any hysteria when I have been on stage. Maybe I should lengthen my act.
\\\\\\Maybe I should lengthen my act.\\\\

with me, I would need to lengthen more than my act.....;-)

/// AOG - My boy is off to the Reading fest today. I trust he will behave in a manner that I find acceptable :-) ///

Don't take this to be rude in anyway, but surely it all depends on what you find acceptable yourself.

Apart from that, you know what they say?

"While the cats away the mice will play" :0)

Sqad

Well, looking at the report in the Mail, it doesn't appear that there actually were 12-14 year olds out there alone.

At least, it's not said explicitly.

Blimey sp if you were left to compose the headline, there wouldn't be any room left for the story.

Crikey Fred are you saying that tents hadn't been invented way back then, and if they were most couldn't have afforded them?
