Typical Tory twit. Sounds like a Freudian Slip to me !

Never mind....we are all in this together apparently ( except those that live in Guildford )
North east desolate, i don't think so, come to boston and you will see that half the population of poland are living here.
I thoroughly enjoyed my decade or so living in Guildford; We certainly do not want the scenery cluttered with unsightly fracking equipment :)

Rather an "oops" moment for him, I think, and a very unfortunate turn of phrase. His whole speech could be classed as special pleading and Nimbyism...
Yes who can explain Four minutes in Durham with you by Fischer Z?
Joe G135....?
Fischer Z is a pop group so I'm guessing its a song title. 'four minutes in Durham'
"Lord" Howell...a quick biograph ::

Educated at Eton and Kings College Cambridge.....oh b*gger...I can't be bothered to go any further.
Clear case of Foot in Mouth syndrome.
LOL, the out of touch showing just how out of touch they are.
you're being frightfully unfair, the chap has apologised after all

Don't know why the Archbishop of Canterbury stepped in; isn't that York's territory?
Don't know what the fuss is about.

My Lord Howell did not say that the entire North East was desolate. What he said was that there are plenty of desolate areas in parts on England such as the North East which are far more suitable for "fracking" exploration than is the South East.

All perfectly correct and reasonable.
Didn't the last time they did it in the NW produce an earthquake?
he's now said there are such areas in the south as well. I expect he means the Cotswolds.
Not perfectly correct or reasonable at all. Freudian slip from a man arguing from the postion of Nimbyism.
I expect he means the Cotswolds.

yes. they can bring the heavy equipment in by HS2.
Sandy - Yes the Fylde coast as I remember.
What's the problem with King's College, Cambridge, eh, mikey?

Yours, Jim360 of King's College, Cambridge.
I assume, from the leafy fastnesses of Guildford, the North East means anywhere right of the Pennines between the top of the Wash and Berwick on Tweed?

If so, yes thanks Ric ;)
Nothing whatsoever Jim, but it just goes to show that the Tories are completely out of touch with what ordinary people think. This Howell chap is a Tory wonk, who thinks that everybody Opp North still keeps coal in the bath.

As I recall there is a sizeable oil operation on the South Coast, in Dorset. I don't pretend to be an expert on this area of geology but perhaps that is where BP and the like should be looking for a resource to replace the rapidly diminishing North Sea oil that we have come to depend on.

Perhaps there might be oil and gas under Guildford .....bet that would dent property prices a bit !
