On Friday I went to the supermarket and bought more than I could comfortably carry ( as you do ) When I got off the bus I had a 'funny turn ' and had to put the bags down while I rested.
A young woman came up to me and picked up the shopping and walked with me all the way home. At this point I should tell you that she was a really down and out and obviously on drink or drugs. I had never seen her in the village before so I was a bit worried. Anyway I thanked her and off she went.
This morning she knocked on my door, again drunk or drugged and asked if I wanted anything doing. I said that I was going out and that I did'nt need anything. As she was going up the path I felt sorry for her and asked if she needed any money, she just said 'no thank you, and walked off. It made my day. Never judge a book by it's cover.

It is hardly difficult to tell if someone is drunk or on drugs now is it!

Most refreshing to hear :)
indeed, whatever her problems, it hasn't stopped her being a nice person.
leahbee -how on earth can you make a judgement that she's drugged or drunk? She may have other problems that manifest in an inability to be coherent or co-ordinated. You have probably offended her!
yes never judge a book by its cover but id be wary all the same...
Me too.

Thank you all for your replies.
There is always someone to spoil it though. Never mind it made my day, but my daughter isa bit uneasy about it because I live alone.
Daffy that is a very naive response. how many people have been passed in the street, ignored as being on drugs or drink, when if fact they were diabetic and having an diabetic ketoacidosis . I'm not saying this is the case but as the OP said -never judge a book by the cover......
I have vast experience of drunks, druggies and diabetics actually. I can tell the difference quite easily and have never ignored anyone I have seen lying in the street regardless of what has caused their collapse. Naive is the last thing I could be called.
leahbee, I'm not spoiling your moment am I? You felt happy cos someone you thought was drugged or drunk helped you out and was nice, she then came around to see if you wanted anymore help and you offered her money which she refused. Now you are afraid she will come back and do something nasty. Therefore you are actually judging her and expecting her to revert to what you think her behaviour should be.
well daffy if I had a medal I would give you it, well done you are certainly a role model for us all to look up to.
She's probably very wise to at least hold that possibility in mind.
I actually find it quite impressive.

When I'm wasted I can't even remember where I live, nevermind someone else's house!

I don't think she would have been carrying my bags if she was having a diabetic ketoacidosis
