A new group calling itself Islamic Emergency Defence (IED - which also stands for Improvised Explosive Device) has been launched. Its slogan is ‘Beware the Lions of Tawheed – Defending the Muslim Community’ - (Tawheed means attributing Oneness to Allah and describing Him as being One and Unique, with no partner or peer in His Essence and Attributes) – and its purpose is to defend the Muslim community – but against what?

Julie Siddiqi of the Islamic Society of Britain called the group “inflammatory”, but Anjem Choudary greeted the IED’s arrival by tweeting “Good news with the launch”, and saying that it had “risen to the challenge”. What challenge?

Doubt if it's gonna get removed - it's registered in Panana
I am not defending this group and I am most certainly NOT supporting Anjem Choudary, but to answer naomi's original question.....
Maybe they are defending themselves against all the recent attacks on their Mosques. We can hardly deny its going on.
is it headed by Choudary, as he has done that so often, set up groups, for the government to ban it, then he just sets up another.
they've been itching to set up their own british born wing of terrorism, independant of control from outside the uk.

the few isolated revenge attacks for the murder of lee rigby has given them the loosest of justifications to do so.

well their adherents killed 52 innocents of all races, faiths in 7/7, then the poor soldier recently, not advocating anyone go out and target Muslims, but if you have people on our streets like Choudary who advocates Sharia law across Britain, he is not just a rabble rouser either, then i wonder what some expect. Had it not been for the vigilance of the police and the security services there would have been many more outrages, bombings on our streets. I can't see what this will serve only to inflame more people like the EDL to counter attack, all very stupid.
In the section, 'Prevent', when all the religious trappings are stripped away, they seem to be saying that the world can be a dangerous place and people should be careful out there.
Sage advice, and applicable to people of all religions, or none.
Mikey, are you advocating that the use of private militia is perfectly acceptable for the protection of mosques?

Mikey, //Maybe they are defending themselves against all the recent attacks on their Mosques.//

But aren't they taking the law into their own hands? What defence are they offering against such attacks?
the sooner they shut it down the better.

Gromit, ?
Defending muslims against what?

// Around half of mosques and Muslim centres in Britain have been subjected to Islamophobic attacks since 9/11, academics have warned as the far-right English Defence League prepares to march to the south-London scene of Drummer Lee Rigby’s murder.

The figures are highlighted in a report which also found that the number of anti-Islamic attacks increased by as much as tenfold in the days following the Woolwich attack.

Meanwhile, research by The Independent shows Islamophobic attacks spreading across Britain, with mosques being set alight and Muslims targeted at home in the past month. //

Noami24,

Just a figure of speech.
so is this a Jews against Muslims stance, not sure i understand your inflammatory comment
Question Author
Gromit, So what are we looking at here? Battles in the streets?
Question Author
Gromit, not a figure of speech I've ever heard. What does it mean?
which is what some want, civil war, can't you see that Choudary would relish that, as would the likes of the EDL, BNP.
