In last night's episode Janet pinches the bum of startled new boy Rob (Danny Miller), who incidentally is her boss.

Could one imagine if the roles were reversed and it was in real life and not a TV drama, surely the 'bottom pincher' would be up on a charge of sexual harassment in the workplace and looking for a new job.

Why is it deemed more acceptable when it is the female who does the 'bottom pinching'?

It isn't.

It is a work of fiction.
i was surprised by that as well, its not something that is acceptable - whatever the sex in real life work situations (well the majority of them). with the following email debacle i wonder if they are setting up a storyline for harassment in a future episode
think it was meant to mean that she was not a prude in view of what happened latter. Still it was silly and superflous (OHH big word hope I spelt it right )
policeman's diary ... had a dreadful day, saw three murder victims and when i returned to the station someone pinched my bottom ...
Things like that rarely happen in isolation in TV programmes.

I think mccfluff is right.......there will be 'something' evolving from it in future episodes..
Maybe it evolves into a situation where she gets done for sexual harrassment in the workplace and ends up looking for a new job.
I'm inclined to agree - this could be a plot 'sleeper' to be used at a later date.

I think such behavioud would be unacceptable in the work place. I was bending over a desk a few years ago, and a female colleague smacked me, and laughed. I was shocked, and did think what would the result have been if the position was reversed.

I do think people genuinely can do these things without thinking, in the same way you can open your mouth without thinking, but it pays to be careful in these increasingly litigious times.
