In view of UKIPs success it has been suggested the Tories should publish a draft referendom proposal before the next election .
Do you agree ?
What should it contain.?
What will DC do if any proposals are rejected by the other members ?

Sure - If DC wants open war within the Tory party on the run up to the election!

He would have to be absolutely insane even to consider it

^^ But Jake this is coming from senior Tories like David Davis and
Philip Hammond as well as back benches. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-news/uk-world-news/2013/05/05/hammond-backs-draft-bill-on-eu-vote-100252-33285816/

No one is happy with this vague promise that there can be a referendom After we vote DC back in ,in 2015. The UKIP supporters are certainly not going to support that and it's those which have to be convinced by both parties Before the election how they will tackle the twin problems of the EU and immigration .
doesn't matter if "senior Tories" want it, other senior Tories won't, hence jake's prediction.

You are right but how else are they going to ward off UKIP. ?
I bet we will be getting promises from Labour before long , it's either that or another messy coalition.
If UKIP represents a sort of farther-that right version of the Tory party, then warding off UKIP would mean moving further to the Right and away from the majority of the population -- and away from a significant part of the Tories themselves. The way to "ward off UKIP", if indeed that needs doing, would be to work better in the ground that the Tories are occupying at the moment. So:

-- Keep working to fix the economy, albeit with a change of track as necessary;
-- Stick to the promises on Europe and a referendum, but not accelerate the current timetable;
-- Use the next two years to challenge the new UKIP councillors and expose any of their failings.

Any knee-jerk shift to UKIP politics is likely to backfire spectacularly.

The trouble is jim the current timetable means we wouldn't get a vote before 2018 at the earliest and we don't know what fudge the proposals are going to be.
If DC was genuine he would tell us now . There is nothing to stop him or Labour from setting out clearly what proposals they will set out if we are to remain in Europe.
My guess would be if UKIP do well in the Euro elections there will be panic stations in the Labour and Tory ranks.

I dont know about a knee jerk reaction but is ony a couple of years before electioneering goes into top gear.

I don't see UKIP as a right wing party .It's the working class who suffer most from the current situation . The middle class are less affected, they can live in the shires.
So UKIP policies are going to be ever more attractive to the urban lefties.
