I wonder how they ever managed without this title before?

It's a good job that I am not a Brighton and Hove council tax payer.

M. is Monsieur, and Brighton may have some francophones, so that's out.

Talking of which, the French government has now ordered that Mademoiselle and Mlle shall not appear on government forms. Married women don't use it and single ones don't like it. It equates to Miss in anglophone countries, some of which give the option of Ms; for 'manuscript', I suppose; for those who, like the French women, find Miss disagreeable.

Cost, aog? Surely the printing of Mx won't cost any more than printing two other letters in a sentence costs, assuming that, if adopted, the Council don't scrap all existing forms which lack it. It's not clear that having diversity training costs much either; what valuable work is not being done in the time allotted to it ? We have to give these civil servants something else to do, you know; the ones in our Council spend all their time passing bits of paper up and down corridors, to give the appearane of working while not having to make any decision !
Wht happens if males and females do not want to use gender neutral loos and changing rooms?
IMO can't see anything wrong with it if it doesn't cost the taxpayer (too much?). I've not really liked the forms where you have to put your gender anyway (dependent upon what it's about) but IF there has to be a relative question that is important than MX IMO is ok. Mind you, how much further are "they" going to take all this sort of thing....seems crazy to me to go on and on...where will it all end....I think it all needs sorting once and for all.
What a crock of sh1t

It's either male or female

What you are born is what you always are

LOL......Hi! joe......bit depressed tonight..Peterborough United relegated.
That's never been up for debate, joe -- it's just that our understanding of "what people are born as" has changed. No-one who is transgender that I know of ever decided to become the "opposite" gender. Instead they would tell you that they always were that opposite gender - it's just that for whatever reason the body didn't match that.
Sqad....pity about Posh they put up a good fight but I think their shocking start to the season didn't help
Joe...yepp! in a nutshell.
(thread about pointless nothing subject highjacked for far more interesting football chat)
Never understood why someone thinks that they were born with the wrong gender and have always thought so. The transgenders that I've dealt with have had that belief and it was tempting to ask "How do you know what it's like to be a woman, if you have never been one; you have not got the female chromosomes, but the male ones? That knowledge must be necessary for you to make a decision". But I never asked and it is clear that some men do think they were so born

Lol, oh to be a football fan.
To put it in a way that even you might grasp;
B&H council are plucking money from your hard-earned every week to 'squander' on Gender Awareness Officers, Gender Compliance Dept. & other such indulgences.
Now if we lived in a land and time of plenty I'd be happy to see every minority cossetted & made a fuss of. But we don't. I'd be amazed if B&H were the only council in Britain that hasn't imposed cutbacks in services.
Good for them.

I don't live in Brighton, but it's great to see a local council concentrating it's efforts on improving life for its council tax payers, and with the highest LBGT community (proportionally) outside the capital, this move makes sense.
I really think people on here stop refering to Trans people as " Transgenders" We're not an object we're humans just like everyone else.

I recommend doing some research in to what Transsexualism actually is before spouting insulting remarks to a minority who suffer social outcasting on a daily basis.

I also think you need to learn some basic biology. Women and Men can be born with opposite chromosomes and a varying combination xxy, xyy, etc etc so chromosomes do not automatically make you Male or Female.

There's no such thing gender binary, nature herself has proved this. Fish change gender's all of the time and so do other animals.

So please, before you go on a drivel infested rant about " transgenders " may I remind you that we are human beings too and have feelings, also are we not entitled to the same rights as everyone else?
I don't use any prefix on forms and so on, I just write my first and last name.
Now I have seen most of the James Bond films and I never knew M was transgender.

Really? You didn't spot how M used to look like Bernard Lee and ended up looking like Judi Dench?
I wasn't aware that the word "transgender" was so offensive, and certainly wasn't meaning it like that.
jim360, I know you weren't being offensive. Transgender isn't offensive by itself like most things it's the way you say it that can cause offense such as those "transgenders" or "the transgenders are crying again"

Sorry if I seem a little aggressive, just wish people would think before they speak as I've been beaten up for times when people have found out I'm transsexual so I get very defensive sometimes. I apologise xx
You have nothing to apologise for.

In your own experience how true is this, that I posted earlier:

"[i]No-one who is transgender that I know of ever decided to become the "opposite" gender. Instead they would tell you that they always were that opposite gender - it's just that for whatever reason the body didn't match that.[i]"
Do these councillors actually get paid?
